Dean Condemns 'Anti-Semitic Literature' (passed out at Conyers Downing St. forum yesterday)

WASHINGTON - A handful of people at Democratic National Headquarters distributed material critical of Israel during a public forum questioning the Bush administration's Iraq policy, drawing an angry response and charges of anti-Semitism from party chairman Howard Dean on Friday.

"We disavow the anti-Semitic literature, and the Democratic National Committee stands in absolute disagreement with and condemns the allegations," Dean said in a statement posted on the DNC Web site.

Rep. John Conyers (news, bio, voting record) of Michigan, the senior Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, organized the forum on Thursday at the Capitol to publicize and discuss the so-called Downing Street memo. That document suggests that the Bush administration believed that war with Iraq was inevitable and that the administration was determined to use intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the ouster of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

The Sunday Times of London has reported that the prewar document, which recounts a meeting of Prime Minister Tony Blair's national security team, was leaked from inside the British government. The White House has rejected the memo's assertions.

Conyers' event occurred in a small Capitol meeting room, and an overflow crowd watched witnesses on television in a conference room at DNC headquarters. According to Dean, some material distributed within the DNC conference room implied that Israel was involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

One witness, former intelligence analyst Ray McGovern, told Conyers and other House Democrats that the war was part of an effort to allow the United States and Israel to "dominate that part of the world," a statement Dean also condemned.

"As for any inferences that the United States went to war so Israel could 'dominate' the Middle East or that Israel was in any way behind the horrific September 11th attacks on America, let me say unequivocally that such statements are nothing but vile, anti-Semitic rhetoric," Dean said.

"The inferences are destructive and counterproductive, and have taken away from the true purpose of the Judiciary Committee members' meeting," he said. "The entire Democratic Party remains committed to fighting against such bigotry."

You want to read something funny go read the Dana Milibanks article from today..covering this sham hearing...Dana took off the gloves and really skewered them.

I just about hit the floor when I read that article - I figured that Milbank would be elbowing people out of the way to be the first to get on his knees in front of Conyers.

You know what the scary part is? It wasn't at all long ago that this kind of cheap, tacky political theater by the Dims would have worked, and instead of having Howard Dean, Barney Frank and Dana Milbank running away as fast they can, we'd be likely looking at the prospect of the second Republican president in 30 years being in real danger of impeachment.

When you see the usual media kneepadders and democrat party leaders running for the tall grass over this, you have to think we have truly exposed the man behind the curtain when it comes to these sick, evil freaks that make up the Left. It's kind of like looking at a photo of yourself taken in the '70's, resplendent in your big hair and your polyester leisure suit. At the time you thought you looked so cool, but you look back and cringe and wonder how in the hell did you think that.

One witness, former intelligence analyst Ray McGovern, told Conyers and other House Democrats that the war was part of an effort to allow the United States and Israel to "dominate that part of the world," a statement Dean also condemned.

This is the same thing McGovern's friend Joseph Wilson said when they were lecturing together about Iraq in June 2003:

Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, IV, "The Iraq Forum: Informing Iraq Advocates Since 1998: The 2003 Iraq Forum: June 14, 2003, Washington, DC: Evening Public Lecture: A State of the Movement Address: Evening Keynote Lecture"

". . .I think there are a number of issues at play; there's a number of competing agendas. One is the remaking of the map of the Middle East for Israeli security, and my fear is that when it becomes increasingly apparent that this was all done to make Sharon's life easier and that American soldiers are dying in order to enable Sharon to impose his terms upon the Palestinians that people will wonder why it is American boys and girls are dying for Israel and that will undercut a strategic relationship and a moral obligation that we've had towards Israel for 55 years."

Does Dean also condemn Wilson's statement? Someone should ask him. . .

That is very true---but this is the second time that Barney Franks has come out against another dem lately...

Maybe the third time, if you want to count Barney's turning on former CNN boss Eason Jordan for his comments about our troops targeting journalists in Iraq.

I love it when even rabidly anti American filth must accept that there are indeed limits to free speech.

Here is a blurb taken from Frank's web site.

RANK REPUDIATES ANTI-ISRAEL BIAS

Congressman Barney Frank today expressed strong disagreement and disappointment with remarks made at an informal Congressional hearing on Thursday which sought to blame the State of Israel for the Bush policy on Iraq. Congressman Frank attended part of the hearing, which was frequently interrupted by a long series of votes that were being conducted on the floor of the House. He was not present when any references to Israel were made.

“The notion that United States foreign policy is somehow being manipulated by Israel is not only gravely mistaken, it is redolent of the sort of conspiracy theories imputing hidden powers to the Jews that have plagued the world for far too long. Congressman Moran’s question which gave prominence to the role of Israel as one of the possible major factors behind the invasion, and the answer by witness Raymond McGovern which not only blamed Israel for the war in substantial part, but objected even to Congressman Moran’s citing Israel as an American ally, are both refuted by the evidence discussed at the hearing itself. It should be emphasized that the hearing was called in major part to discuss the Downing Street minutes that were released, and nothing in those minutes in any way supports the allegation that this was all an Israeli plot.

Excuse me now I have to take a shower.

Maybe Milbank got one - he's the one who brought them up. But he may not have even attended.

However, Conyers himself didn't even deny the existence of anti-Semitic literature in his rebuttal to the Milbank story. His story is "there was lots of literature being passed out - I don't have any control over that."

I think someone had to get a copy. If the Dem's had gotten all the copies of the pamphlets they would NEVER have had Dean apologize for it.

As we found out this past election cycle again, unfortunately it doesn't matter to 40% of the Country what these morons do and say, they will still try to elect a rat.

I'm confused. We watched this group of nitwits on C-SPAN yesterday. Weren't they in a basement room in the Capitol building? What is this about DNC headquarters?
