Vermont Senator Pat "Leaky" Leahy tried to spin his way out of the Democrats' Nazi-gate scandal yesterday - after Illinois Senator Dick Durbin compared U.S. troops at Guantanamo Bay to soldiers in Hitler's Third Reich - by saying his colleague was misquoted in the Wall Street Journal.
Asked whether he objected to Durbin's characterization of GI's as "Nazis," Leahy told WVMT Vermont's "Charlie & Ernie" radio show, "First of all, with Sen. Durbin, I'd be very careful about taking quotes off the Wall Street Journal editorial page.

"They are notorious for taking quotes totally out of context," he added, "even making them up." Durbin's quotes, however, didn't appear in the Wall Street Journal, but were instead first covered by its sister web site, OpinionJournal.com, which obtained the incendiary remarks from actual Senate audio broadcast by radio hosts Laura Ingraham, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
Unfazed by his error, Leahy blasted the Bush administration's decision to invade Iraq, suggesting that the U.S. had done just as much damage to Iraq as Saddam Hussein.
Reminded of the Iraqi lives that have been saved since Saddam's fall, Leahy shot back - "We could also think of the tens of thousands of Iraqi lives that have been lost since the fall of Hussein."

"Leaky" is a socialist and he has the spine of a jellyfish. But then he's from "Dean-Land."
It never fails for a democrat to defend brutal dictators and tyrants.

Someone should inform the dems that while the US troops are NOT like Nazis, Saddam Hussein WAS comparable.
Now, if they really are concerned with human beings being tortured, they should stand behind us as we finish the job in Iraq.
What did you expect? The democRATS are losing their minds. The horrific suffering of the Holocaust victims - compared to the comfort zones of the detainees. I just can't believe it.

Although the ADL has condemned the remarks, the Simon Weisenthal Center has remained silent.
What is un-real is the a republican (Lott) makes an off-hand comment that was true and is hounded out of the leadership.
Dem's continue to say worse and nothing happens to them.
The Right is losing and, not controlling the conversation.
It is clear that the "Democratic Party" is now the party of
1) Hate and Blame America for Everything
2) Opposition without Offering Alternatives
3) Socialism/Communism with their incessant "redistribution of wealth" increased taxation
4) Fostering Political Correctness to the point of absolute stupidity
5) Embracing every perversion imaginable
6) Treason by encouraging our enemies during war time

The GOP's response, including the President's lack thereof, is weak at best. We must contact our Senators and the RNC and tell them to get out front of this story and keep harping on Durbin until something is done. Republicans must stop trying to be "friends" with Democrats. If Republicans allow this issue to go away, not only with nothing happen to Durbin, his lies will become truth...as always happens with Democrats. They are great at repeating their lies often enough to become truth... Global Warming but one example.
I wonder if the video was edited to match the Journal's article?
