HOW are they reporting it? Is this a "catastrophe" like this afternoon's? ;)

My sister called from the midwest after watching the TV...making sure we were OK.

I'm in SF.. Marina. I felt some minor wobbliness that resembled a bus going by.

It lasted longer than a bus so I started looking for the EQ on a bookmarked map. I was sitting perfectly still at my desk.. may not have noticed otherwise.

It never showed up on my EQ map but I finally saw the post here with a diff. map. Thought I was crazy.

FR is awesome.

It's almost on top of the other one. Could be an aftershock.

It's in that little southern chunk of the Juan de Fuca plate that juts down into the Pacific plate. Methinks old Juan's waking up...

These quakes are unsettling.

Uh, yeah.

Here's the seismo from Mt. Baker, clear at the north side of Washington state. Still some pretty good oscillations going on.

Heads up up there.

Haven't seen Oceanperch yet on this new one.

And sure hope we don't have another one down here. Although today's was only a 4.9, it rolled and shook a bit too long for comfort.

Geologist Jim Berkland predicted a California quake (6 +) on or about June 22nd. Since then, we have had two large quakes off the coast of California. Oregon is getting the jitters with the recent tsunami warnings and reports about swarms of quakes (3 +) off the coast. Today is only June 17th.

Here is an earlier thread discussing earthquakes and quake predictions:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1423072/posts

There appears to be a confluence of events taking place that will result in more quakes off the coast. From the above thread, I indicated new quakes resulting from solar activity were possible:

Major Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the sun will hit our planet . . .

There was CME activity from the sun on June 14th. Look for auroras in the heavens tomorrow. Perhaps tomorrow there will be more earthquake activity in response to geomagnetic storms. Here is a 'movie' of the sun blasting a CME our way:

Some people believe that CME's may trigger earthquakes and tsunamis. There is no scientific proof of this theory yet. But statistical studies are being performed by scientists all over the world.

Again, today is only June 17th.

I don't know how you can sleep out there in California with all this recent activity.
I hope it settles down for you soon.

Another Tsunami warning...

Good gosh, it is making everyone out here go nuts.

Four decent size earthquakes in the last week, and I have not felt one of them. Granted, they are a bit far away for me to feel. The last one I felt was the Paso Robles quake in 2003.

Hopefully, that will be the last big one that I will feel for awhile. Well, until the Hayward/Calaveras Faults decide to move. That will not be pretty.

Gosh, I love living in California. Hope everyone is okay up in the far north.

Tell Jim to move the servers out of S.F. and relocate them to Reno.

The biggest event lately was the one off of Chile, 7.8 or so a couple days ago. I think that one was near the site of the largest quake ever measured or recorded, the great Chilean 9.5 of 1960.

Really? Wow.

Dr. Lucy Jones, seismologist at CalTech reported a great increase of web site hits during today's earlier Southern California quake.

I'm in the Marina, too. It was a gentle shaking. Nothing that alarmed me (for once).
