New York -- The New York Times Co. lowered its outlook for second-quarter advertising revenue on Thursday and predicted that earnings would come in below its year-ago results.

The newspaper publisher, which also owns The Boston Globe and the International Herald Tribune, said advertising has improved over a year ago but continues to be "uneven" across categories.

As a result, the company predicted that ad sales will grow by low to mid-single digits, instead of the mid-single digit growth previously forecast.

"While advertising revenues in the second quarter have exhibited modest year-over-year improvement, the ad market remains uneven across categories and markets,"

Well duh! I'm sure MoveOn.com and Ben & Jerry's can only buy so much ad space.

Didn't Ben and Jerry have to leave the ice cream business because one of them was pregnant?

When you stop reading the news and editorials, you also stop reading the ads.

I'm proud to do my part in both areas.

They say that you can't begin to heal until you reach rock bottom. I don't think they are there yet.

This is not good news. Follow my logic:

1. The NYT says ad revenue is falling.

2. The NYT lies, fairly regularly.

3. The odds are therefor very good that ad revenue is actually rising.

Sorry for the bad news but we live by facts on this forum.

Nah, there's a flaw in your ointment. Here's why: I also think the NYT is lying as usual, but I think they are lying in the sense that revenues are falling MUCH FASTER than they are telling us.

Proof: They recently laid off what, 25,000 workers? Companies, particularly far left-wing companies, don't do that if revenues are rising, do they??

Sleep well. The New York Slimes is just whistling slowly past the graveyard ...

Hey Pinch!

Your competition at Newsday and the Post have INCREASES in circulation and ad space.

I wonder if it has anything to do with your leftist, usefull idiot culture.

Duranty, Blair, Raines - its all the same!

And how dare you fight last year to retain the 1932 Pulitzer that was a Grand Coverup of the Ukrainian Holocaust!

Those 10 million souls will soon dance on your grave!

Your "PROOF" figure is way overflated. The number is 190. 130 from TNYT and 60 from the boston globe. Some jobs will be outsourced, the others eliminated. They announced this a few weeks back but actual layoffs will take place in August.

What the heck are you talking about? Newsday (which btw is two steps to the left of the Slimes) just saw three execs doing the perp walk for fraud because they conspired to falsify circulation stats...
