WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Critics of the Iraq war proposed a congressional resolution on Thursday calling for a U.S. troop withdrawal in a reflection of growing American unease, a proposal swiftly rejected by the White House and the Pentagon.
When did Tariq Aziz get killed? Surely you've got a date when that happened.
Yes, but how are they friendly to us are they with familiarity.
I personally don't think Chavez steals elections, I think he just whips the poor people into a frenzy and they buy into his crap.
Also, look at the cases in Europe, where they tried to inject republican government into unstable situations.
For example, Weimar, Weimar is the ultimate example of what will go wrong if you let it.
Also, when bringing up America, you must remember, people here had been here a long time, living virtually as they wished. So we had been trained long before it.
Where in the constitution does it say we can't put troops on the border? If you're talking about Posse Comitatus you'll be looking a long time because that's just a law Congress passed in like 1870-something.
Okay, I did my time, too, nearly 20 years ago. Don't give me "this isn't what I signed up for" because it just doesn't play. If the recruiter lied to you, well, boo freaking hoo. You aren't the first and won't be the last.
Would you have the lives of 1700 men to be meaningless by pulling out too soon? Are you so dense as to think that announcing a pullout timetable is not the same as just admitting defeat and quitting? The minute you announce a pulout timetable, the terrorists start bunching up and planning on how to destroy what we built in Iraq.
BTW, thank you for your service. It is a shitty job that liberals just can't understand. (Maybe because they don't understand the concepts of loyalty and patriotism.)
It's become a PR "war", not a real war. When we carpet-bomb Fallujah, flatten any mosques that look at us sideways, ignore Koran-peeing questions and utterly destroy towns harboring terrorists - then it's a real war.
Driving back and forth in convoys, getting picked off day by day, isn't a "real war" because the terrorist population isn't crapping its pants at the sight of us. They need to be doing so; assuming their family history ends with them if they get out of line.
We're going to take another big hit here at home, count on it, before we get serious about wiping out terrorist Moos.
And I'm about to say we ought to get the hell out of there too rather than sit around shooting spitballs at these monsters. I wouldn't counsel MY kids to join this PC army.
L,TOWN - I suspect the author of this thread is lying when he says he is a veteran. On another thread he claimed that he was present on active duty in Iraq when Tariq Aziz - Saddam Hussein's foreign minister - was killed in what he claims was his "camp."
In reality, Tariq Aziz is alive and in Iraqi custody.
This is a good example of Madison's and Hamilton's approach to gov't by Republic rather than demagoguery. A balance is important and not just any balance, but an enduring balance. In our system we don't have the estate classes, so have substituted methods and periods of elective procedure to public office to spread out the interests. One says get out of Iraq, another says that wouldn't be wise. These suggestions are to be balanced against each other. Balance is the only reason America continues to exist.
With the exception of that part (or those parts if you want to count Lebanon during those periods the Christians were ascendant) not dominated by Islamics, and especially Arab Islamics (although the Persians and their kin can be mighty nasty too).
Ain't a Constitution thing. It's a single law change thing.
I voted for Bush because he was the right choice over that empty suit Kerry, now if he doesn't come correct and straighten up and fly right he needs to be impeached for failing to uphold the constitution especially the little part in Article IV about defending the country against foreign invasion.
I'm with you. Listen to the venom these people are spewing. You must have touched a nerve.
Last I heard he was alive....and word is, cooperating with investigators (I have no way of knowing if the latter is true, of course).
We left Vietnam when we let the Rats cut the funding. I don't want us to bug out. I want us to do what is necessary to win. But if we're not going to do that, then sitting there getting beat on is a bad, bad option.
I think if you're going to assert Aziz is dead you need to provide some documentation.
Perhaps you're out of your league...
You are entiled to that opinion regardless if you spent a year in Iraq or not.
How many trainers do we have available?
Plus there is the real problem that so many Iraqi officers were Saddam's cronies. Not all of course, but way too many of them. The rest were probably pretty crooked too. And how do you build an instant NCO corps? I don't think the Soviet/Russian solution works very well, and in any event requires even more officers, who take longer to train. Plus I don't think such a solution would produce an army appropriate to their situation. The Soviet army and it's Afghan clone certainly failed in a similar one.
