Operation USO Care Package(Support our troops)
Operation USO Care Package ^ | 6/16/05 | Operation USO Care Package

A good way to get your personal message of support and encouragement directly to the troops.

Let them know the old media and the durbins do not speak for us.

The United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO) is enlisting support of individuals around the world to support the troops through Operation USO Care Package. These packages are being delivered to members of the U.S. Armed Forces deployed around the world to show them they have not been forgotten and to provide a ‘touch of home’.

With a donation of $25 you can sponsor a care package and include a personal message of support and encouragement. These USO Care Packages at minimum, include requested items such as pre-paid worldwide phone cards, sunscreen, travel size toiletries, disposable camera and a message from the donor thanking them for their service and sacrifice.

I am a 2-tour Vietnam veteran and I think the world of the USO. I won't give the Red Cross a penny, but I have always financially supported the USO.

You have no idea how important getting "stuff" from home is to kids who are deployed overseas, especially the younger kids who are at the bleeding edge of battle.

THANKS for posting this! I volunteer with the USO of Northern Ohio; last year alone our group sent out 20,000 care packages to troops from all over America. Some of our Thanks You letters from the troops are posted on our new web site http://www.usocleveland.org (some pages are still under construction.) Keep in mind that some centers are locally financed so if there's a USO near you think of dropping off or mailing a donation directly instead of going to the Washington location. In any case, supporting any USO is greatly appreciated!!

Y'know what, it is really "MY" pleasure and honor to be able to shake hands, say Thanks and hug those Troopers when they come into the airport lounge when I'm there. I also get a chance to say Thanks to the veterans who stop by. Some people tell me thanks and I always feel awkward. I do so little for those who sacrifce so much. Any little thing someone does really means allot to our Armed Forces. Here's a small little hint, for someone who really doen't have extra cash for whatever reason, write a note or card and send it to a USO. It will be read by a Trooper and/or included in a care package. Cards and letters from kids are always a big hit with the Troops. BTW, if anyone wants any more info or suggestions please FReep mail me. THANKS, everyone, especially to any GI or vet reading this.

You know, this world is full of givers or takers. You, like most vets I know, are a giver. You give your time, your heart, your intelligence to a cause that matters to so many.

Don't be awkward about accepting a little gratitude for what you do...you deserve it. Not because you're better than others, or because you've risked more than others, but because you care about others.

Read some of those replies you receive from the troops...you make a difference in their lives and that's definitely worth a little gratitude from the rest of us...their parents, or the vets who went before them.

Thank you for all you do.

I also just happened to hear on the radio about the Veterans of Foreign Wars UNMET NEEDS program, where they provide financial assistance for emergency needs of families of military overseas.

http://www.unmetneeds.com/

Since 2003, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, through the VFW Foundation, has provided millions of dollars of support to Americans serving in harm’s way. As this risk continues abroad and here at home, financial demands on the families of those serving continue to grow. Helping ease the burden of our military families in need is the mission of the VFW Unmet Needs Program.

WOW, Thanks FairOpinion. I've been wondering about an oganization that helps those left behind. This is the first I've heard that helps the families, financially. This is another important service.

Ok, gotta get my checkbook back out. And, I'm going to post this link at the FR Canteen since this is one of the things we do there, too.

My sentiments exactly. No soldier should feel awkward about doing something so noble. My little first graders and I will be among those thanking the troops next year.
