Really he was a political activist his whole life and he may have practiced all of two years.He was a think tank President(like Tancredo) most of the time and he ran for congress twice and lost.Then he was a popular talk show host.Two years after he got his JD he started running.He is the rare example of a professional(career) politician who does not sell out.

You need to spend less time a "your real job" and more at political activism.

I would rather have a conservative lawyer than a conservative non-lawyer any day. It's easier to make laws that advance your cause when you know how the legal system works. Look at what the Dems have done with the ABA and the judiciary on their side.

And I would rather have someone who has had to live a real life and work real jobs under those laws the lawyers wrote to screw him at every turn and tell him how to run his life and his business.
