Vanity: Just In From Def Leppard Concert (Bush and Republican Bashing)
Def Leppard Concert | 6-16-05 | my favorite headache

Posted on 06/15/2005 10:12:03 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

Just wanted to post this because I have yet to attend a concert in 2004-2005 where there has not been one instance of Bush bashing.

Just took in a Def Leppard concert with Tesla opening for them. Great show. Hit after hit after hit after hit.

One of my favorite songs from Def Leppard has always been God's of War from their 14 million selling "Hysteria" (which had every song but two played tonight).

Def Leppard obviously has waned in popularity over the years but they have always been about one thing...rock and roll and delivering it to their fans. They along with Van Halen are 2 of the best party bands to see live. They don't make them like this any longer.

The Bush bash.

God's of War featured a video wall behind the band where President Bush morphed into Adolph Hitler when it closed in on his eyes. Then he turned into Stalin and then Hussein and then Qadaffi. The morphing continued with Nixon, Bush Sr.,Tony Blair,Reagan,Thatcher, and Cheney.

Not one single sight of Kennedy,Carter,LBJ,or Clinton.I guess they forgot Vietnam,Iran crisis,Kosovo,Bosnia,USS Cole,Embassy bombings,WTC first bombing etc...they don't dare touch one of their own.

The crowd seemed to basically just go along with the music and ignore the visual histrionics but it really annoyed the hell out of me. I found myself so let down by these guys who never have taken this approach with their music or presentation and all of a sudden we are being taught a visual and musical histrionic history lesson from Def Leppard of all people.

I know, I am sure there will be people who will come on this thread and rag on them for being an 80s band and all. But they have sold 70 million albums in their time and are celebrating their 25th Anniversary. I had not seen them since 93 and thought I would give it a go and take my son to his first rock concert.

I hope artists realize the more harm than help they are doing when they come to this country (Def Lep is from the UK) and push this agenda crap in a rock concert.

Not cool at all...and as the 32 yr old woman next to me said as the video images were happening,"Christ, can't we even go to a concert without the stale CNN lessons?"

Amen sister.

I didn't know that they were still a group. In any case, they are written off of my list.

How f***ing rebellious. Bush-bashing is SOOOO cutting-edge and avant-garde. Oooh, aaah.

And Def Leppard stinks. The worst. Sorry, Headache; always loathed these guys.

I remember listening to their music back in '84. Good memories.

I guess I won't be listening to their music again.

Never trust a band with an odd number of limbs.

You attended the very K-Mart of popular culture and you saw the fringes of society?

Thats too bad. I like both Tesla and Def Lepard. I'm not surprised that they are ignorant moonbats, just disappointed.

I was talking to a friend of mine on the cell on the ride home and he said, ever notice the one band that has been around for so long never has once pushed their personal beliefs in your face?

Rush.

I know they are liberals at home, but they leave it there and let the music do the talking. Which is why I guess I am still a big fan.

I went to see Little Texas and Nitty Gritty Dirtband at a community event a couple of weeks ago, no Bush bashing, in fact some dedications to the soldiers instead. Used to despise country music, still dislike much of it, but I must admit, it falls much more in line with how I think.

I'll not jump all over you for giving them your money and subsidizing their spewing lies and propaganda. I will ask, why do you do it?

Why not FReep it instead? Go do something that supports Conservatism? Volunteer at the Boy Scouts offices?

Gate money and royalties is what lets these Useful Idiots and Fellow Travelers keep bashing all that you and I believe in....

Food for thought, please consider it.

Thanks.

Like I said, I had no expectations of them doing this. They had never put the politics on-stage before this and it just showed me the #1 lesson they failed...don't offend 1% of the audience that paid to see you cause more than likely that is 1% of that particular audience you will lose for life.

LOL. I work in the music biz with rock bands, the Leps are something of a joke right now, number one for touring the country playing baseball fields (several rungs down from the State Fair circuit, but not playing dives yet), number two for releasing several albums that they have to remind their audiences that they were even released, and three, for touring with Bryan Adams.

And, after Nine Inch Nails having JUST pulled out of that MTV show for not being able to do the same thing on prime time TV, they just look like total posers.

Besides, the Leps should be thankful to Republican presidents, it's during those tenures, the economy swelled, and they sold more albums.

To be fair to the poster, this is the first thing, of a political nature, I have heard out of the group. I guess it is just to much trouble to come out on the stage and sing.

And Neal is even an ex-Ayn Rand type...

They've had a few squishy liberal songs, against "Big Money" and nuclear proliferation and such, but nothing partisan.

Re: the Def Leppard video--didn't Ozzy have a similar video behind him last summer? I remember reading something about Bush = Hitler at Ozzfest.

All the more reason to listen to Skynrd and Charlie Daniels.

I was going to see that show. Hard Rock Seminole right? Too busy. Glad I missed it. Very disappointing to hear their lame political crap. Tesla played all acoustic didn't they? What pub do you write for?
