CHICAGO -- Illinois Senator Dick Durbin says he won't apologize for comments comparing American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Nazis and Soviet gulags.
News of the Democrat's comparison created a buzz around the Internet today, fueled by sound bites of yesterday's Senate floor speech on radio talk shows. By this afternoon, Illinois Republican Party Chairman Andy McKenna asked Durbin to apologize.
Durbin says the Bush administration should apologize for abandoning the Geneva Conventions.
Human-rights activist groups and some lawmakers -- mostly Democrats -- want Bush to close the prison.
But administration officials say some of the people who have been detained at Guantanamo later return to fight against the United States.

Washington is apparently populated by two types of creatures; pussies and traitors. Actually, three types, and it's relative to this thread: "pussies, DICKS and assholes".

We should all call "Dur bin Laden" at
(202) 224-2152 or go to his
Contact Sen Durbin page and make our voices heard, (although word is that his staff has been simply hanging up on most callers).
We should also contact all of our Republican Senators and DEMAND that a vote of censure be brought on the floor for Durbin's outrageous remarks.
There is no way Sen Lott should lose his leadership for what he said, while Durbin expects to not even have to apologize for this.

or as savage says "Turbin Durbin". This name should catch on!! Savage also pointed out how Durbin compared Guantanamo to Nazi concentration camps such as Auschwitz--an outrageous and deeply insensitive comparison. Where is the ADL to demand Durbin visit the Holocaust Museum?

Good point. A lot of folks around here don't like him for obvious reasons but I think Rudy gets the shaft for his views on one or two important issues that ultimately won't come into play in a Rudy administration. (Let's be real, Roe v. Wade ain't going nowhere; I approve of Bush's approach by getting conservative judges into position, but it's still not going anywhere.)
I don't think I'll be the only Republican come primary season who gives Rudy a second look.

Abraham Lincoln, 27 January 1838: "At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. "

If I were a relative of a guard at Gitmo, I'd be at Durbin's office this morning demanding that apology. What a disgraceful piece of trash this waste of flesh is!

Yes. Absolutely. But I hope just ordinary decent folk who can will pile into Durbin's office demanding an apology. He is an evil plague-bearing mosquito.
But what we should all be demanding is his immediate RESIGNATION. To ask for anything less is nuts.
Dump Durbin.

Amen. Look at what's sport to the Left and the Democrats: Nope - its not Al Qaeda. Its the U.S military that is defending our country from those who murdered 3,000 Americans. The terrorists in Gitmo Bay have better accomodations than people checking into the Waldorf Astoria in New York City do, paid for by the taxpayers. But to Birdbrain Durbin and Co, that's not evidence of American compassion; that's evidence Americans are Nazi and Soviet torture specialists. The Democrats keep turning off Americans with their anti-patriotic mindset.

"I feel like I am living among cultists."
I used to do alot of work on local issues and was proud to be able find issues that appealed to a broad politcal spectrum.
I now find myself seldom keeping company with these obnoxious types, as the issues I once felt were important no longer are when compared with the War On Terror.

What about Rudy?? Good idea. I was thinking only of Senators. But Rudy could make him look like the cowardly appeasing weinie he and the rest of the Democrats are.
