1896: A cool spring day compared to the fires of hell. Fort Mohave, CA had a reading of 127 Deg. F., setting the U.S. all-time June high-temperature record. The low on that day was 97 Deg. F. (marginally better than the lows of 100 Deg. F. observed on the 12th, 14th, and 16th).
1969: According to a U.S. Army technical paper, the average June dew point at Ras Andahglie and at Assab, Eritrea (across the Red Sea from Yemem) is a bit more'n 84 Deg. F. A cursory examination of psychrometric tables shows that to obtain an 84 Deg. F dew point, wet bulb temperatures need to be between 61 Deg. F. and 83 Deg.. With those wet-bulb temperatures, a comfortable psysiological temperature humidity index (THI) of 75 will be observed if the ambient temperatures remain between 89 Deg. F. & 69 Deg. F. (respectively). Highs and lows for the next week in Assab are forecast to be 96 Deg. F & 86 Deg. F. Theoretically those temperatures, correlated with a hypothetical dew point of 84 Deg., translate to THI of 86 and 73.5 (respectively). Succintly put: its going to be hot in Assab, Eritrea about 23 hours a day over for the next week (at least). And quite frankly, not just plain hot, but miserably so, albeit not as miserable as an eternity in hell.
1992: lighting, evidently from the anvil of a distant storm, hit the ouside radio antennae of a home in Onaga, KS. Racing into the ground rod, then into the metal bars in the home's concrete walls, it blasted a 16" hole in a wall throwing a man 26' The man was badly hurt. No word on if he took this to be a clue to get right with God while he still had a chance.
1988: an F3 tornado caused $10 million damage in Denver, CO and injured 7. A man lost both his shoes, a sock, and buttons off of his shirt, while clinging to a telephone pole, a golfer was thrown 40' and a woman and baby were sucked through a broken store window, although they all were otherwise unhurt. No word on whether or not there were any changes to these individuals religious convictions resultant to this event.

It currently is not raining here. I doubt the reprieve will last. I am still damp.

Oh,
man. Quick, give me your temp and humidity (or if you know it: dewpoint or wet-bulb) and I'll tell you if your comfortable or not. =)
Seriously, though, I love your profile. What you think about Ez 22:30?

That's odd, my source is showing
98% humididity, which corresponds to a wet-bulb of 79.5 Deg. F. At 80 Deg. ambient this translates to one word, and one word only: Damp and uncomfortable (THI 78.7).
Hi-Lo: 82-80 Deg. F (Wed-Thur)chance T-storms
Hi-Lo: 82-82 Deg. F (Fri)chance T-storms
H-Lo: 82-82 Deg. F (Sat) T-storms
Sunday will be SUNNY! with Hi-Lo 82/82 so go ahead and put that smiley face on. But the facts do suggest that you presently are, and most likely will be, uncomfortable until then (and maybe even then too).

Well, it's one of the better days at Scott Base, Antarctica with a globally warming 25.8 °C (-14.5°F), and apparent temp -34.3 °C.
For a one time offer only, we could be persuaded to be adopted by a Northern Hemisphere family.

If the dewpoint there doens't change (80 Deg. F.), given the forecast highs of 82 Deg. F.: your THI becomes an ugly 80.2. : (
Here, KDET reported at 1400 EDT 86 Deg. F. (THI 79.2), and 1700 EDT 89 Deg. F. (THI 80.2) : ( yuck. Although, after the storms came through, we now have a very nice THI 69.2 @71 Deg. F going for us (a whole lot better than 12 hours ago) =)

Boy did I screw up that Eritrea THI deal. The hypothetical 84 Deg. F. dewpoint (per the aforementioned U.S. Army technical paper) would result in a theoretical THI 83 at 86 Deg. F (1.5 Deg wet-bulb depression) and a THI 89 at 96 Deg. F (9 Deg. wet-bulb depression). Sorry 'bout that, won't happen again.
Succinctly put: just plain ugly and round-the-clock-ugly at that.

Dude...its pour - I say POURING rain. I'm sticking with the 100% humidity (yes - I did change that one...heh heh heh).
When the rain stops it will probably drop down to something more comfortable...say 95% or so. And the temp will go back up tp 33-35 c. Wouldn't want to catch a chill.
Its so bad I am actually listening to Rick James music...arrrgggghhhhh.

Warning - To much information to follow...
No global warming in Chicago area today. Feels more like October, cool, dry, wind and grey clouds. So dry are fruit trees are dropping their fruit. The fruit is of course falling not far from the tree as the saying goes. (Important note there)
Was looking for the sprayer to attach to the hose the other day so I could get water on everything since it is so dry and for the life of me could not find it. Looked and looked. When I finally did find it - it was in a place I must have looked a dozen times --- for some reason I just was not able to see it ALL of those times. Glad I finally saw what was right in front of my eyes so I could water those trees that have apples falling from them not far from the tree - of course.
