Immigration Reform May Push Tancredo Into Presidential Race

Given Right Circumstances, 'I'll Run,' Says Colorado Republican ---

NASHUA, N.H. -- U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo says he is so dissatisfied with the pace and direction of immigration reform, he is considering running for president to deal with it himself.

"If no one is willing to pick up the banner ... yeah, I'll run," the Colorado Republican said Saturday during a visit to the state with the earliest presidential primary.

"Though I say that with a great deal of trepidation. It seems like a daunting task. But we need to get a president in there who will support this," he said. "I don't know what else to do."

Once, New Hampshire might have seemed an unusual backdrop for taking a stand on illegal immigration. But recently the state has been the focus of heated debate on just that issue.

Citing a need to uphold national security, several police chiefs have been using criminal trespassing laws to press charges against illegal aliens found in their communities.

The tactic, which has been challenged in court, has drawn praise and criticism from around the country.

Tancredo first visited New Hampshire in February, when he gave an award to New Ipswich police Chief Garrett Chamberlain, calling the chief a national hero for charging illegal immigrants with trespassing.

Tancredo said the reason for his visit to New Hampshire, and eventually to Iowa, is to get a leader in the White House who understands the threat illegal immigrants pose to the country's security.

He said federal prisons overflow with illegal immigrants, some of whom aim to harm people.

"And they need to be found before it is too late. They're coming here to kill you, and you, and me, and my grandchildren," he said, pointing at people in the audience. "It's just despicable."

"You seem to think republicans can't win unless they kiss the butts of illegal aliens."

No, I think we can't win if we continuously make gratuitous insults to Hispanics. ie; "Hispanics are destroying our neighborhood, ruining our culture, lowering our education levels, etc... Inserting the word "illegal" doesn't fool anyone.

We have been doing real well attracting Hispanic voters with our traditional conservative issues of God, family and country.

But it only takes a few jerks to destroy years of goodwill.

You and me both know that a big part of many politicians soft stances on illegal aliens is to get the hispanic vote. And that pandering works. Apparently hispanics for the most part for illegal immigration. When they say they are insulted by "gratuitous insults" and not by immigration law enforcement, Im not fooled. The way politicians views on illegal immigration corresponds to their support among hispanics says it all for me.

The word "illegal" is inserted because that's who we're referring to, Einstein, ILLEGAL ALIENS. Thanks anyway for injecting the illegal immigration lobby's spin into this thread. But guess what? You aren't fooling anyone.

No you're not. When y'all post pictures of Hispanic looking men standing on a street corner you don't know whether they are native born Americans, naturalized citizens, legal immigrants or illegal aliens. All you know is that they look Hispanic.

When you say you've seen emergency rooms filled with illegals, everyone knows you really mean you've seen them filled with Hispanic looking people. You don't know anything about their citizenship or immigration status.

When you complain of hearing illegals speaking Spanish everyone knows you really mean you are complaining about Hispanics because you don't know their immigration status.

When you talk about an "invasion" in California of illegals, everyone knows that you are talking about the increased percentage of the population that is Hispanic due to births and legal immigration, because the per cent of illegals has not increased in a number of years.

I wouldn't care at all about how much animosity you generate from Hispanics if it weren't for the fact that they think you are Republicans or conservatives.

That is a bayourod classic, worthy of the Baghdad Bob award. Here's what the treason lobby's open borders have actually brought to LA:

Massive Police Action Nets 19 Gang Arrests 900 Law Enforcement Officers Act Simultaneously

POSTED: 6:50 am PDT June 21, 2005 UPDATED: 9:27 am PDT June 21, 2005

BURBANK, Calif. -- At least 19 arrests were made overnight in a raid targeting a violent San Fernando Valley gang suspected of killing two police officers.

The early-morning raid began at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, when officers began serving 43 search and arrest warrants on members of the Vineland Boyz gang in Los Angeles, Palmdale, Rosamond, Valencia, Bakersfield and Simi Valley, police said. The Vineland Boyz gang is suspected in the fatal shooting of Los Angeles Officer James Beyea in 1988 and the 2003 shooting death of Burbank Officer Matthew Pavelka.

By 5:30 a.m., at least 19 of the 43 gang members being sought were in custody, and "Operation Silent Night" was continuing, said Los Angeles police Chief William Bratton. He promised an update at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"We're very pleased this morning with the results of this operation," Bratton said.

Pavelka's father, also a police officer, told NBC4's Robert Kovacik how he felt about the murder of his son at the hands of gang members.

"I feel some responsibility for what happened because Matthew followed in my footsteps, on a path that was a dangerous one, and, unfortunately, he was one of those officers that paid the ultimate price."

The arrests were made under the federal RICO law, which was enacted to dismantle organized crime groups.

During a rare 5 a.m. news conference just hours after the arrests, LAPD Chief William Bratton called the gang a "modern-day Mafia."

The task force that served the warrants and made the arrests involved 900 local and federal law enforcement officers and nine police helicopters acting simultaneously.

The Vineland Boyz gang is a criminal organization, "involved in drug trafficking, murders, attempted murders and extortion," Bratton said.

Bratton said Tuesday's operation was the culmination of an 18-month investigation.

Bratton called the Vineland Boyz gang members "poster boys" who had been targeted by the LAPD.

Now that is how you solve the gang problem, not by minutemen sitting in lawn chairs with water bottles for dehydrated border trekkers.

Thanks for the info.

PS. and the crime rate is too the lowest it's been in many years in California.

Everyone is looking for someone like that.

In a real big way. He runs, he wins in my opinion. Most American's have lost their patients with D.C. on the immigration issue.

Link to 2000 Calfacts

California's Crime Rate Is at a 35-Year Low

You might also be interested to know that the percent of illegal aliens in California has not increased in recent years.

And you would probably be shocked to learn that California's economy is booming. It's not really true that the sky is falling.

You seem to think republicans can't win unless they kiss the butts of illegal aliens.

The Tancredites seem to think the GOP can't win unless it kisses the butt of 4-5% of the electorate....
