If this is true, Felt directly disobeyed orders from a superior and obstructed justice by interfering with a criminal investigation.

"NEW YORK (Reuters) - Mark Felt, the former FBI official who unmasked himself as the legendary "Deep Throat" source who leaked Watergate secrets, twice led FBI probes into finding Deep Throat, The Nation magazine said on Tuesday. "

Now this has to be against a law.

This guy is too old to prosecute. The administration would get a ton of flak for it. However, Bush could give Felt some sort of pardon. It would be a backhanded way of letting everyone know that Felt did something wrong.

What is the statute of limitations on obstruction of justice?

In other words, he screwed his agency to save his ass. He's not only "cunning", he's sleazy and underhanded.

"How Deep Throat Fooled the FBI," which shows how Felt cunningly threw the federal agency off his trail, will hit news stands on June 23 and was posted on the magazine's Web site (www.thenation.com) on Monday night.

Talk about living in the past. They are making a cult hero out of this guy. Idiots.

Felt directly disobeyed orders from a superior and obstructed justice by interfering with a criminal investigation.

Felt later received a report saying there were alternative sources, besides FBI personnel, for everything reported. He forwarded the analysis to Gray, who suggested to Kleindienst that possible sources for the leak were the U.S. Attorney's office in Washington and a White House official, according to the story

He also knowingly filed false reports to a federal officer, in this case the head of FBI, the AG, and the President. That's how they got Martha Stuart among many, many others.

How hard can it be to find a deep throat magazine?

There was a movie like this. I've forgotten the name or I'd look it up and see when it was made. That may be where Felt got the idea.

this explains why Deep Throat couldn't be revealed any earlier... if Felt was younger they might prosecute him

Molly: I just noticed this before turning in for the night. I know many ATRWers would be interested in it. Perhaps you would like to include it in your news listing.

Not only that ....but think about this for a second.... When someone gets away with such a huge breach of confidence it emboldens them to do it at a larger level. Can you imagine the adrenaline rush Felt had for decades regarding his anonimity?

Here is the question.... What else did Felt have access to that he would be willing to leak for much less payoff.

Is it any wonder why we have the Clintons running around free in this world or why we had 9/11.....

the ranks of some of our best institutions have been corrupted by ego-centric, arrogant, self-righteous traitors......

now I know why we never could impeach Clinton or convict him of being a traitor.....his FBI and CIA buddies covered for him.....

of course, it would take a strong leader to rid the system of disloyal members......

Holy cow, no wonder they all wanted to keep his identity a secret until after he died!

Even if he's too feeble to prosecute, an investigation should be opened into ALL the official matters he had any involvement in, probably lots of security violations will come to light. ANY case he worked on is now suspect, and he was the number 2 guy at the FBI! He covered up his own involvement in the Watergate investigation that brought down an American President. What ELSE did he cover up, what other investigations did he thwart? The implications are huge.

(Wonder if any journalists will note that perhaps Nixon was showing excellent judgment by NOT naming Felt to head the FBI, LOL? Ooops, the legendary Deep Throat, vaunted icon of noble whistleblowing and courageous duty to country has been outed to have some major integrity problems of his own, and turns out to be a vindictive, self-serving CREEP, pun intended! Not quite so noble anymore, is he?)
