This guy is too old to prosecute. The administration would get a ton of flak for it. However, Bush could give Felt some sort of pardon. It would be a backhanded way of letting everyone know that Felt did something wrong.

It's not just that he's too old to prosecute, I am fairly certain he is too old to be incarcerated for a non-violent crime. Plus he is probably not competent enough to stand trial, and would not likely be alive in a few years (which is how long it would take to even go to trial).

Felt was pardoned by Reagan IIRC. For what, I don't know.

I like your thinking. It shows both graciousness and assigns blame. Excellent!

Felt was like a confused teenager, trying to find himself.

The statute of limitations must apply...the case is so old. The feds couldn't go after Alger Hiss for passing secrets to the Soviets (only for perjury) and much less time had intervened.

Bush could give Felt some sort of pardon.

Probably the pardon that RWR gave to WMF for the wiretaps and break-ins of the Weathermen, et al, would cover this as well. Maybe not.

"Bush could give Felt some sort of pardon. It would be a backhanded way of letting everyone know that Felt did something wrong."

That is beautiful. It would make some dumb liberal happy and tick off the smarter ones.

I President George W. Bush do hereby grant a full pardon to Mark Felt for his vicious crimes and dereliction of duties in regards to the Watergate investigation and the illegal dissemination of sensitive and ongoing investigations without following due course. Even though he violated his oath to uphold the law, this undeserved pardon is granted.
