I wish this guy luck as he enters the den of vipers. I'll even forgive him for spending much of his exile in France. After all, a lot of world leaders like to vacation there, such as Hitler.

Now that is an accurate title because some other MSM articles portrayed General Aoun as an ally to Syria because among 34 candidates he supported in yesterday Lebanese parliamentary election, only one guy was an ally to Syria, and Aoun did for pure local politics. The truth is that General Aoun is the most anti-Syrian politician in Lebanon because he fought Syria militarily for 2 years 1988-1990 before he was overthrown by Syria and exiled for 15 years.

I thought the other day, they said pro-Syrian parties would win.

Have a nice day, Bashar!

Why did they divide the voting by different days and regions?

OK, now BBC says something different.

Among other things, they say that "Mr Aoun, a long-term critic of Syria, demanded the issue of Syrian influence in Lebanon be put aside and allied himself with pro-Syria candidates."

Additionally, "Mr Aoun's victory is a blow to the main anti-Syrian opposition, which could now be denied a majority in the parliament."

Is this good news?

The media doesn't have a clue who this guy is. I've seen stories describing him as anti-syrian and other stories describing him as pro syrian. Are they just guessing?

simply because the administration lacks the logistics needed to conduct the whole elections at the same day.

His fight with Syria ended with Syrian withdrawal. Yes, it ended because Aoun could not wage an international war against a neighboring country. First, he is not at the head of the Lebanese state. Second, it is against international law.

As of joining ranks with whoever, Aoun has formulated his own political program covering fighting corruption. Whoever joins rank with him, agrees for that whole program. Corruption goes back to the Hariri 12-year PM era, having resulted in a $44 Billion debt. Aoun is asking for an independent, if possible international audit into the lebanese government finances for that period. The "opposition" has formed a coalition from an all former pro-Syrian politicians to counter this audit. This audit would have a crystal clear result, that of unmasking to whose pockets went those $44 BN. Everybody in Lebanon would tell you that they went both to the pockets of the Syrian Nomenklatura, the Syrian intelligence apparatus posted in Lebabon, and those same people who claim now they are anti-Syrian.

" I'll even forgive him for spending much of his exile in France."

That was because the US covered in Oct. 1990, his removal by the Syrian army. Even when he was invited to the US in the framework of preparing the Syria Accountability Act, the US administration refused to grant him an entry visa, a first time! Go search in the former Depatment of State for the reason!
