I felt this real good....

Boy we did TOO here Ernest!! we have a two story home, and I was sitting here at the computer. Rocked and jolted very strong. I have the earthquake website bookmarked and hit it immediately. SHowed NOTHING . Then after several refreshes there was that huge red spot!!! Lots and lots of mini aftershocks.

Yeehaw - the stories to tell ... each is basically different and is very predicated on proximity. I've seen the ground liquefying in waves traveling across the earth, I've had the house slammed sideways from the north and from the west. The worse was felt like the whole property had been dropped about 20 feet. Violent shaking is almost a given, if you're close by, and particularly with the immediate aftershocks. Each are different. I was watching the Sunday Morning Funnies and felt the slight rolling and immediately I checked for things swinging, and there were. I'm 17 miles north of the LA civic center.

Animals do feel the vibrations proceeding the quake, you just have pay attention and to be adept at understanding their language.

The best one I remember rolled. I was exercising on the floor (so that means that it was years and years and years ago!). It sounded like a train coming from the direction of my feet. When the "train" arrived, it ran through the house like a wave. From my feet to my head, there was a wave.

Never been in an earthquake. Does the ground move sideways? Up and down?

a bit of both!! You know it when you are in one!!!

Parley Baer: "That part of the San Andreas is way overdue for a big shaker."

Yes that is a consideration. Meanwhile... Akkkkkk.

The question is: was it as good for the rest of Southern California as it was for you?? LOL!

Sounds like Southern California's lasted longer. They're saying 15 seconds or so?

Ours are short, quick and to the point. More like teenage boys. ;-)

Here in Costa Mesa I heard some creaking sounds but didn't feel it.

Yeah could be God didn't file the proper permits with the city, that happens quite a bit here. The planning commission is pretty draconian here.

Ed Masry and Erin Brockovich are probably busy right now drafting a lawsuit in case anyone in the city felt a little jolt. Is Masry still on your city council? What a liberal fraud!

What do yall do while it happens? Do you just be still and see how big its going to be and hope its small? Or do you go outside so that things dont fall on you?

It really depends on the situation. For instance, I was in my garage when a pretty good 5.1 hit a few miles away, and seeing the appliances dance around was a good cue to get out of there and into the back yard so I wouldn't have to dodge something like a waltzing freezer.

If it's just a little roller, I generally wait until it stops (and go back to sleep if it is too early to get out of bed.)

The worse was felt like the whole property had been dropped about 20 feet.

Now THAT would be scary.

That IS a good map. Looks like it's on the west side of the mountains from Palm Springs. The closest civilization is probably Warner Hot Springs.

I think Long Beach is a little far away...that's why you didn't feel it.

We're in Glendale and I felt it, lying on the couch.

It was kind of a bump then a rolling motion.

He is but has been having some health proplems so I dont know if he will resign. I am trying to talk my wife into running for the next open seat. If she does I will let those at FR know. She has a masters in public policy from Pepperdine University and training in conflict resolution, Which would be helpful working with thousand oaks city council that is for sure.
