TRENTON, N.J. (AP) _ Anyone other than the governor and members of the Legislature will be required to submit to a background check before being allowed access to confidential security information under a measure that moved through the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday.
The so-called "Golan Bill" is named for Golan Cipel, the Israeli national hired by former Gov. James E. McGreevey as a top security aide. Cipel, who was found to be ineligible for top security clearance because he was not a United States citizen, was later identified as the governor's lover after McGreevey resigned amid a gay-sex scandal.
Republican Sen. Joseph M. Kyrillos Jr. said the legislation "will help ensure that New Jersey's homeland security is not compromised by special arrangements like it was in 2002."
The bill requires criminal background checks for state workers and contractors in positions involving domestic security.

Later, Federal Homeland Security officials refused to share data with Cipel because he was not an American citizen.
In September 2004, news organs reported that McGreevey administration officials in early 2002 demanding high-ranking National Guard and State Police officials share security information with Cipel and take him on tours of vulnerable security locations---extremely vulnerable in the days after the 911 WTC bombing.
The security sites visited by Cipel have since been replaced, officials said.
Why shouldn't governor and members of the Legislature be required for background checks?
The elected folks are supposedly subjected to public scrutiny via the media. Yet somehow, libs running for office seem to be exempt from that process too.....

News Media was suppose to be a reporting service. Now it is a profit center. Clearly this exempts them from scrutiny.
half the legislature would turn up involved with Mob pay-to-play and because they are the ones who vote on it and sign it, respectivley
NJ has truely become a one party state.
