"When I was growing up, it wasn't just poor whites who ate like this, although we certainly qualified as both poor and white. Everybody, rich and poor, black and white, ate homegrown vegetables and chicken fried steak and BBQ ribs."
I REALLY am afraid I'm going to short out my keyboard by drooling on it. Sounds wonderful. I'm sorry. I'm just a plain old plain food lovin' American. When I talk about good Japanese cooking, I mean the KFC in downtown Tokyo.
My wife and I talked once about going to Japan to teach
English for a couple of years. Those plans came to a halt when our two youngest came up for adoption. But another problem I was going to have was how to pack a two years' supply of Whataburgers and chicken fried steaks.
Sarah Vaughan had a beautiful, smooth voice. She sang in her choir, but I don't remember any gospel music she recorded.
I fell in love with Sarah the first time I heard "Broken Hearted Melody." I felt a genuine loss when she died.
She was nicknamed "Sassy" by her fellow musicians.
Another smooth one was Nat "King" Cole, father of Natalie Cole.
