Rangel in 'Holocaust' firestorm - (...when words fail you...put a sock in it, Charlie..sheesh!)
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS.COM ^ | JUNE 10, 2005 | LLOYD GROVE

Powerful lawmaker Charlie Rangel has provoked the ire of the Anti-Defamation League by likening U.S. military action in Iraq to the Holocaust of World War II. The Iraq war "is the biggest fraud ever committed on the people of this country. ... This is just as bad as the 6 million Jews being killed," the 74-year-old Harlem Democrat insisted during a Monday radio appearance on the WWRL-AM morning show with Steve Malzberg and Karen Hunter. "The whole world knew and they were quiet about it because it wasn't their ox being gored."

When interviewer Malzberg challenged Rangel's analogy, the congressman replied: "I am saying that people's silence when they know things terrible are happening is the same thing as the Holocaust."

Yesterday, after Malzberg sent me an audiotape of Rangel's appearance, ADL President Abraham Foxman responded: "It is so outrageous that a leader of Congress would compare one thing to the other. Sometimes we say it's ignorance. Charlie Rangel is not ignorant. Charlie Rangel has been there."

On the radio show, Rangel also suggested that proponents of military action - namely Vice President Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Rumsfeld's former deputy Paul Wolfowitz and Pentagon adviser Richard Perle - don't worry about the Americans in Iraq because they're "black and poor white soldiers" from "the lower economic class."

"They had a plan to put our kids in harm's way long before 9/11," Rangel said. "Because it's not their kids ... that's exactly why. They go and pick a fight, and then say, 'I'll hold your coat.'"

Foxman retorted: "It is so outrageous that I think he owes an apology not only to the families of the victims of the Shoah, but he also owes an apology to the soldiers who are fighting for freedom.

"If the world had recognized the evil of Hitler early enough - just like we're confronting the evil of terrorism and fundamentalism now - then maybe the 6 million wouldn't have died."

James Taranto on "Best of the Web Today" -

"It's good that there are people like Foxman around who are paid to remind us that such comparisons are outrageous. For our part, we can barely muster the energy to roll our eyes. We have simply become desensitized to exorbitant liberal-left rhetoric. Bush = Hitler! Little Eichmanns! Guantanamo is a Gulag! By now what can one offer in response but a weary "whatever"?

This is a problem not only for those who resist the trivialization of evil but also for the liberal left itself. Shock can be a useful rhetorical device, but only if used sparingly--for the listener's capacity for shock quickly diminishes. That's why Republicans see Howard Dean as a laughingstock rather than a threat."

Rangel cannot open his mouth, without something stupid coming out. Wasn't he the one who was arm-in-arm with Castro, when Castro visited New York?

I want to throw up when I hear Rangle and then to know that he is a national politician. The guy is just so very stupid. He is a Democrate and he is also stupid. If he was a Republican or a Libertarian he would still be just plain stupid. There are way too many politicians that are just so dumb. How tragic for our country. But I guess the Sheeple deserve it.

Rangle has always presented a paradox to me as we cannot diminish his service of 50 year ago yet he is so wrong.I heard him on Sean's show this eve and R realy got taken apart. There was no denial yet no understanding of the outrage so the "d" is branded deep.

Rangel and Barnie would make a good pair. Something to keep Rangel from running off at the mouth and Barnie would be happy also.

I am not at all shocked. Repulsed & disgusted yes. I would be shocked to find there is a limit to what these scum would say. Also, since I see very little evidence that the rank and file Dims are upset with such hate, I can only think that they agree with these analogies.

So, let me extrapolate further with a hypothosis. And I would be interested to hear from everyone whether they think I am rational or not.

Suppose the Dims were to be restored to full & domination of the 3 branches of the government. Further suppose that laws were then passed restricting the rights of non-Dimocrats. Suppose these laws were inforced with fines and incarceration.

Now, how many of the Dim party base (those that never vote anything but their party, anyone but Bush types) would stand up and speak out against such actions? Would they be silent and allow conservatives to be fined and imprisoned for their beliefs?

I believe it likely that the majority of Dims would say nothing. For them, this battle of ideologies has become a [secular] religious war, justifying anything that works.

Rangel is a loudmouthed racist idiot, but he's a black RAT, so it's OK. Anything is OK as long as you're a RAT. I don't give a damn if he was in the army 55 years ago, either.

Well, he does have a poiint when he says Bush and Co. don't care about the soldiers in Iraq (not for his reasons though).

If Bush really cared about winning this war he got us into, he would do something about the Jihadists that are pouring in from Saudi.

Instead, he bows to those (Prince Abdullah and his top aide) who exhort Saudi males to "fight the infidel" in Iraq.

Charlie is always making the claim that blacks are being killed in Iraq at a higher percentage than whites.I am willing to bet him that far fewer black men have been killed in Iraq over the past two years then have been murdered in his political district.Charles is presiding over the slaughter of black men right here in NY.

Rangel rarely opens his mouth without shoving his shoe in up to his sock.

This one's outrageous and he knows it. He likes to wear his stupidity on his sleeve.

See this thread and this photo about Dean: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1420713/posts

From my point of view, I can see this current barnyard strutting rooster as a maniacal dictator. People forget that Hitler was a laughingstock before he staged the Munich beer hall Putsch. After that, people stopped laughing.
