CALDWELL -- Canyon County Commissioner Robert Vasquez announced today that he is running for Congress in 2006.
The Caldwell Republican vowed to do all he can to defend our nations borders from illegal immigrants.
How can our federal representatives strive to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, while asking our young men and women to secure a foreign border, but ignoring ours, and allowing millions of illegal aliens to enter literally at will, Vasquez said.
Vasquez stated he does not want to see Idaho become like California and Arizona.
Those who are aware of the illegal aliens overwhelming the medical and social services of those states realize that it will take a different mentality to honestly address the issue, Vasquez said.
Vasquez said Congress has ignored important matters to Idaho such as illegal immigration, failed to stop the CAFTA from going forward, ignored the affects of the World Trade Organization on American industry, and continues to send our young men and women to fight in Iraq.
Vasquez is seeking the seat currently held by First District Congressman Butch Otter, who plans a run for governor in 2006.

"Pulling out of Iraq is not going to make our borders more secure."
How do do you jump from a part of a sentence, written by a reporter, with no quotes, to an assumption that he wants to pull out of Iraq?

A former state employee and part-time columnist for the Idaho Press-Tribune, Vasquez established his position more than a decade ago when he wrote a column advocating English as the country's official language. Before last November's elections, he wrote an editorial claiming servicemen such as he -- he lost a leg in a Vietnam battle and wears shrapnel scars on his face and hand -- made the country safe for "liberals."
"As you sit in your Subaru Outback with the 'Save Tibet' bumper sticker, sipping your decaf-soy milk-latte, dining on your veggie burger, and whining about the poor al-Qaida being bombed, think about this: Freedom is not free," Vasquez wrote. "But don't worry, your friends and neighbors are paying the price."

Thanks for that e-mail address. I'll start there and see what happens.

You're welcome. I dropped him an email asking for his website and contact info.
If we can get Vasquez and about 430 other like-minded candidates elected to Congress, America might have a chance to survive.

How do do you jump from a part of a sentence, written by a reporter, with no quotes, to an assumption that he wants to pull out of Iraq? When someone complains that the government "continues to send our young men and women to fight in Iraq," the inference that he doesn't want to continue sending them to Iraq is justified. If you're telling me that the reporter completely misunderstood or distorted his position, then I'm glad to hear it. However, I don't see anything in this article or the other one that tells me where he really stands on the Iraq issue. Are you certain that he supports taking the battle to the terrorists in their backyard and not in ours?

Are you certain all terrorists are in Iraq and not already coming through your backyard? I live in South Texas and they are coming through here! Wake up and smell the coffee!

That's great to hear. Otter is a good Congressman and will make a good Governor, but Vasquez will be a GREAT Congressman. The media will have an apoplexy when they find out that one of the strongest voices in Congress for stopping illegal immigration is a Hispanic Republican!
