Baby girl on suspect's mind Gomez-Garcia's aunt says he wanted to see infant daughter

CULIACÁN, Mexico - While hiding out in Mexico, suspected cop-killer Raul Gomez-Garcia had one recurring thought.
"He wanted to go back to his baby girl," said Veronica Perez, Gomez-Garcia's aunt.
Gomez-Garcia spent nearly a month in Mexico while authorities in the United States sought him in connection with the slaying of Denver police officer Donald Young.
Yet, for much of that time, said relatives with whom Gomez-Garcia stayed, the fugitive talked of little else but returning to Denver and his girlfriend, Sandra Rivas, and their daughter, Jameled Stacey, born three weeks before Young was shot to death while working off-duty at a baptismal party.
Gomez-Garcia, 20, a Mexican national, was staying with his aunt, Veronica Perez, and her husband, Joe Luis Flores, when he was arrested Saturday outside a grocery two blocks from the Flores home.
Flores and Perez said they didn't realize Gomez-Garcia was a wanted man until shortly before his arrest. When police told them of the allegations against their nephew, they were stunned both at the seriousness of the crime and that he apparently would have risked his life to see his child again.
