MOSCOW, June 10. (RIA Novosti) - Many Russians view the eastward advance of NATO and "color" revolutions in former Soviet countries of the CIS as interconnected events. Is there a conspiracy against Russia?
Writer Alexander Prokhanov and Alexander Yakovlev, head of the Democracy foundation, shared their opinions on this score in a weekly, Argumenty i Fakty, in the run-up to Russia Day on June 12.
The West's geostrategic objective is to weaken Russia, to prevent it from becoming a superpower again, and to turn it into a compliant donor. This is why Russia is being surrounded by security cordons and "hostile regimes" are being established around it. "So, there are all the elements of a conspiracy," Prokhanov said.
According to him, the attack against Russia includes the introduction of foreign standards and values in Russian society. "Hollywood is as important as the CIA in this attack, and the eastward advance of NATO is as important as young Russian men wearing T-shirts with the American flag," the writer said. "And the consequences of this attack are unpredictable."
Yakovlev said there was certainly a conspiracy against Russia, but it involved Russian bureaucrats who were "greedy, corrupt and despised their own people." He said the goal of this collusion was personal power and enrichment.
"In the past, we blamed everything on the Jews, [but] now it is the turn of Americans," said Yakovlev, a "hero" of Mikhail Gorbachev's perestroika. "If you watch Russian television regularly, you get the impression that the U.S. has nothing to do other than plot against Russia."
Yakovlev was shocked by the results of a poll according to which 80% of Russians view America as the country's main enemy. "Russia and the Soviet Union never fought the U.S. Not a single Russian soldier was killed by an American and vice versa," he said. "And now this shocking result. But if you ask anyone what the U.S. did to him or her personally, they will have no answer."
On the whole, if there is a conspiracy against Russia, "the main conspirators are we ourselves," Yakovlev said.
RE: Notice the anarchy symbol - these seem to go hand in hand.
Of note - it seems that many people who have been anarchists for a few years are increasingly attracted to National Bolshevism.
I liked this one the best. "To summon turbo-hookers". I have no idea what it might mean, but it always makes my imagination run wild ;-)
A Daimler-Benz is sometimes called a Mers in Russian and Ukrainian, and there are still a lot of old Soviet-made Moskvich brands on the road, like this model 1500. A 'Merskvich' is a way to brag up your POS. This one has a bumper sticker reading 'Merskvich-Jet Fighter'. Notice that the license plate is Ukrainian, but he has a Russian flag sticker with Romanov double-eagle on trunk.
Merskvich-Jet Fighter ... LOL!
This vanity plate reads 'Expert' ;-)
So, beyond this tired, worn out excuse, what are the real reasons?==
I saw it by my eyes. Russians was very disappointed that America bombed serbs.
I think it can be repaired if America today some kind to help Serbia to accqiure thier historical lands which she lot because of bombing. Kosovo.
People will tell taht America made mistake then corrected her. The respect will be higher then was.
Second thing is Iraq war. The explination of war was clumsy.
If pres Bush told to the world that America just needs to bring fight from her shores on turf of islamists then russians understand.
It is clever tactics. To create killing sack on turf of enemy the lure which attacts all scums from islamic world who want to fight americans to Iraq then do all kilings and distructions there. To create the "meat grinder" - how it called by russians.
Same time your own territory is safe. Perfect.
I explain Iraq war to my russian accquitants in that way. They understand.
So I'd say that american politicians has to explian themselves not only to fellow americans but to the world and do this much better. THEN the world appriciation will be better.
Ivan, I love reading your attempts to explain Russian culture and correct misconceptions (they are all godless commies) that all too many of us Americans have about the Russian people. I made a Russian friend last year who spoke five languages (smarter than most U.S. citizens)and happily spent his free time teaching me to read Russian and understand the culture. Having grown up on movies like "Red Dawn". I used to think like some of the blockheads that post their anti-Russian tripe, but now I don't. I would think that Condee could communicate our reasons to the Russian people.
Don't do it to yourself, just press the damn button.
I did, and this is what happened ;-)
Ah, her...
False advertising. Vezde obman. :-(
But the important thing is, don't smoke. That could really cause disease.
I think, your picture is all truth.
I have picture of billboard with a half-naked woman extolling the virtues of a wine cooler in a lightbulb-shaped bottle, under the text 'Just screw it in'. On the street beneath the billboard is another of the ubiquitous Ukrainian grannies.
It's a bit racey for a family forum like ours, though ;-)
Given the destruction of three-generation family in the US, I think they should hold the brides and export grannies instead. I am paying $30 per dinner out for a teenage babysitter so that she can watch the TV in my living room, then another $25/week for Russian lessons for my daughter.
Damn social security.
Not every babulya is safe to leave around the kids, though. I knew at least three that needed to be locked up. They may have seem too much history for one person to cope with.
