David Frum's Diary - DEANIACS
NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE.COM ^ | JUNE 9, 2005 | DAVID FRUM

The GOP a "Christian" party? Wait a minute - I thought it was run by, ahem, "neocons."

Anyway, aren't American parties supposed to "look like America"? And last time I checked, wasn't America full of Christians? Like 95%?

And is the insinuation here that there's something wrong with being white or Christian? That whites and Christians are a rather unattractive and robotically single-minded bunch? (If true, by the way, that would sure have spared Europe a lot of wars over the past 2500+ years ...) Isn't that an unwise thing to say for a Dem chairman who has promised to reach out to red state America?

I'm trying to think of what would be a Republican equivalent of a remark as omindirectionally bone-headed as Dean's. Here's my invention: It is the equivalent of a Republican party chairman sneering at the Dems, "Look at these people! It looks as if none of them ever cashed a dividend check in their lives! Why they have no stake in the country at all....."

How long would such a moron as that last at the head of the RNC? About a minute and a half, right? I don't wish the Democratic party well, but just from a point of view of sporting interest, I do wonder: Can't anybody over there play this game?

C'mon David - liberals revel in failure. If liberals didn't think it was such a godsend, they'd never have hired Howard Dean to lead their party. DUH.

Understand the demonization of Howard Dean is Hillary's plan. Don't get me wrong- he's a true psycho. But what Clinton wants is for him to look crazy, so that SHE will look "moderate" when she takes over the show in 3 years.

Gee, David, did you just pick up on this? Throw in heterosexual and you win the cigar.

Your comparison is really good!

I was thinking a comparable statement by the head of the RNC would mimic Dean's use of ethnic and racial slurs, with insinuations about work ethics, etc.

This would be followed shock and outrage, by week after week of editorials and news stories, perhaps even news specials about the statement, examinations of the causes of such statements, the psychological aberrations of persons who make such statements, and so on and so forth, ad nauseum.

If Dean were raising money it would be different.

The entire democratic leadership is white male (including Hillary) and professedly Christian.

Do they have a Condi? A Powell? A Brown? Anyone in the high leadership who isn't whiter than Martin Mull?

Bunch of damn racists and they have the chutzpah (insanity?) to suggest the Republicans, who ARE diverse at the leadership level as well as through the party, are the "white bread" party?

I was thinking, it might be a good idea to send Dean, Martin Mull's " History of White People In America". I am sure he could use some of the tidbits about white people in his next rant.
