SANTA FE (AP) - Santa Fe police believe a Los Alamos National Laboratory whistleblower beaten outside a Santa Fe bar could have been attacked because he allegedly struck a pedestrian in the parking lot.
They do not believe the beating of Tommy Hook had anything to do with his status as a whistleblower.
Deputy Police Chief Eric Johnson says the investigation is leaning toward a fight in the parking lot leading to the beating Sunday.
Johnson says Santa Fe police do not plan any immediate arrests. He says the department is turning the case over to the district attorney. He says the district attorneys office will have to figure out who should be charged.
Hook suffered a broken jaw, a herniated disc and missing teeth when he was attacked early Sunday outside a topless bar.
He and his supporters have said they believe the beating was meant to keep him from talking about alleged financial irregularities at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
He was probably drunk as a skunk when it all happened.
My speculation at this point is that he is an unbalanced man, and likely a malcontent. His "whistleblowing" probably has not resulted in what he'd hoped for. Frustrated, he went to go get drunk at a very nasty place. Of course, all the LANL malcontents have latched onto this and are saying "the man / the establishment / Bushites wanted to shut him up" blah, blah, blah.
I think I'll just take a wait and see approach to this story. I've read several articles on the incident and there seems to be witnesses other than the beaten party that are backing up his version, while other witnesses are going the exact opposite direction. One says he received a table dance in the club, several others claim he never had any contact at all with any of the dancers. It could be a smear, or it could be a legitimate case.
I've got no confidence in our FBI these days.
No, he wasn't drunk. He received a phone call at home and he left to go meet a caller who said he had information on the whistleblower case. He only had a couple of drinks and when no one showed up, he left the bar. His wife said he never goes out drinking in the bars.

Actually, he's one of the auditors that brought to light the missing millions at the Lab. This goes back to the Clinton administration. China/Clinton/money for secrets. Does that sound familiar?
IIRC, this was the second phone call and second supposed meeting & no one showed up at either other than Hooks.

This story is coming from the Santa Fe police. You have to keep in mind that Santa Fe is a small town. It wouldn't surprise me if the SFPD is about as qualified to investigate this case as the Boulder PD was to investigate the Jon Benet Ramsey case.
My FBI reference was to comment #1, also, one of the articles I read has the whistleblower family and lawyer claiming the FBI was leaking information in an attempt to smear him. As I said earlier, I'll just wait and see how it all shakes out.
I've not a lot of confidence in the FBI, either. I only meant my comments as a caution to not put much stock in the SFPD, either. Have not read the other article that you referred to.
Why would the pedestrian who was struck and was that pissed allow Mr. Hooks to go into the bar and drink 2 mixed drinks, allow 1 hour to pass, and then blindside him over 1 hour later. If it was rage which possessed the attacker, how could he contain his rage for that period of time? No, that is not what happened. Why was it reported that they told him to keep his mouth shut? This explaination is a canard.
I hate to say anything about police officers, because my husband was one, but I've had personal experience with the Santa Fe PD, and they are incompetent, as far as I'm concerned.
Are you familiar with the Flight #800 witnesses and how the FBI didn't want to talk with anyone who said they saw the missile going upwards? My belief in our government agencies has been shattered by their own actions.
I've seen pictures of the missile about to strike the plane. Yeah, I know what you mean, these government agencies do leave you feeling betrayed, and distrusting.
Why would you believe anything the F.B.I. says? Their
track record in the truthfulness department isnt very
good.
Yep! I was faced with believing the Santa Fe PD which has NO credibility, or waiting for the FBI's report. Hopefully the victim will be able to identify some of the men who beat him, and maybe, just maybe the whole truth will come out!
Hook arrived Cheeks 6:30 P.M.
Consumed six (6) beers.
Experienced "several" lap dances.
Tipped "generously".
Left at closing time Sunday morning.
Attempted to back out of parking place in Cheeks parking lot nearly backing over pedestrian.
Pedestrian and friends didn't appreciate being nearly backed over and acted out.
Zero correlation between another Sunday morning at Cheeks and whistleblowing re LANL WF&A.
Not to say LANL doesn't warrant a thorough counterintelligence reform per Notra Trulock, Code Name Kindred Spirit: Inside The Chinese Espionage Scandal, Encounter, 2003.
Not to say the FBI doesn't warrant rebuke for Richard Jewell and the Waco massacre and more.
Not to say the SFPD isn't a satire of itself with its three-car-per-traffic-stop policy.
But in this case Freud is right: the cigar is just a cigar.

Yep! LOL! ....
