Exactly. And it was also mentioned a number of times that should Specter get sick or die, Rendell would then appoint a Democratic Senator.

Well, Specter is sick and thus it is a most distinct possibility.

{His brother lost a congressional race by about 2% in an red area that went 60-40 for Bush both years.}

Are talking about the now Pa-10? Currently it is a deep Red district, but prior to redistricting it was a marginal district. Don Sherwood defeated Pat Casey, another son of Casey, by 515 votes in 19998. In 2000, Sherwood and Casey had a rematch. Sherwood won again by 53-47. In redistricting, the GOP controlled General Assembly deleted Scranton and the nearby towns out of the Pa-11 to make Sherwood a safe incumbent.
The Casey name may be respected but its not invincible.

Yes, though Casey is pro-lfie he would obstruct a pro-lifer for a high ranking position and promote a pro-abort instead, but the same thing can be said about Santorum. Or have we forgotten Santorum promoted abortion luvin' Specter to head the judiciary committee instead of pro-life Jon Kyl? How does have Specter the Borker in charge this committee do anything but strengthen the pro-abort "cause"?

Make no mistake, I'd vote for Santorum over Casey in a heartbeat because Santorum's voting record is OVERALL much more conservative than Casey will ever be, but you're kidding yourself if you think Santorum can use the "I'll back pro-life people" argument after his actions last year. Santorum symbolically screwed over his base last year and he's suffering the consequences and better scramble to undo the damage.

Specter looks like a dead man walking. I don't think he's going to be around to give Santorum a boost.

I'm voting for Santorum, I'm just telling you he doesn't have a prayer.

The major reason I'll be going to the polls in 2006 is to vote Ed Rendell OUT.. Tired of him taking my tax dollars to prop up Philadelphia's failed transit system.

Santorum backed Sphincter. If he had not, Sphincter woudl have gotten the boot.

For this reason, Santorum needs to be eradicated from the U.S. Senate for his deplorable action.

All decent people in PA need to toss Santorum in the dumpster.

Give Santorum a Break. If he didnt back his Collegue last year, he would be going against the Republican Establishment and George Bush. These are things he will desperatly need in 2006.

You are so right WS. I aent Ricky an E-mail asking why he has not questioned Kerry on his right to be a US Senator and to release his records!

What I got back is that Kerry's service was honorable. The same slobber mouth crap that the White House put out!!

Ricky is seeking reelection to the Senate, I'm looking at third Party candidates, because I'm tired of being sold out!!

I know you fully understand what the word "principles" means.

Santorum caved-in on principles by backing Sphincter and he must be tossed into the dumpster. None of us should support RINOs or traitors to principles.

No, I don't believe in 3rd party candidates unless a 3rd party has a legitimate chance, which has not been the case.

I believe in voting against the RATs (as opposed to voting for the leftist RAT-like Republcians), but holding the Republicans accountable.

We will NEVER gain any headway in our attempt to reclaim our nation by bashing RATs and preaching to the choir. The only way we will make progess is to vote in these RAT-like spineless Republicans and pressure them to act like conservatives.

Sadly, if we dont work with RINO's once and a while, the Conservative movement would be destroyed. Currently there are about 175 "Conservative" Congressman and 35 "Conservative" Senators. That alone is not enough to pick a Speaker or a Majority leader, sometimes we have to help these "moderates" in hope that they will help us again later when we need them.
Yet, when we don't need the moderates, throw them out, I agaree. Im not convinced Toomey could have one that one, and therefore Santorum made a sound decision.

Sadly, if we dont work with RINO's once and a while, the Conservative movement would be destroyed.

The "conservative movement" has already been destroyed in Washington.

"Working with RINOs" has given us the "Gang of 7". At one time we had a "Gang of 2". Now it is a "Gang of 7". If we "keep working with RINOs", we will have a "Gang of 55".

By "working with RINOs", we now have 15 million illegal aliens in this nation, still no closed border, 67cents of every revenue dollar going toward domestic welfare (from 53 cents of every dollar in Clinton's first year), and the Republican'ts caving-in on the filibuster, et al . . .

This is what "working with RINOs" has achieved. I don't buy your argument. Santorum (and Bush) backed a socialist, and both deserve to go down in flames. We conservatives deserve to have conservatives in Washington after we elect them, not turncoats who become RINOs.

I dont like RINOs, go ahead get rid of them. Enjoy the RATS. You cant win elections or Legislaturs with 40% of the vote, but your right the pandering must end.

ohhh...I dont know....

As I remember from living in PA, the name Casey always gets votes even without fraud.

and that isnt because Santorum is a RINO to some on here. This race would be close even if he had a 100% ACU rating....

I guess, if you are really going to search for a 3rd party candidate, you might as well vote for Casey.

No 3rd party candidate is going to win a senate seat in PA. Sorry guys.

I really sincerely hope that the people in PA will vote for Santorum, because the GOP would really use the seat. If Casey gets in there, well I guess you will have succeeded in not only possibly sabotaging any majority the GOP might have garnered, but even possibly handing the Senate back to the Dems. But of course, that DOES seem to be the motivation for some on FR these days.
