Parents protest school fingerprint scans as 'Mark of the Beast' (Tangipahoa Parish, LA)

AMITE -- Nearly 200 Christian activists attended the Tangipahoa Parish School Board meeting Tuesday night where they prayed and protested the fingerprint scanners at two schools that some liken to the biblical end of the world.

Despite a thunderstorm, the activists gathered in front of the School Board office before the meeting for a half-hour of group prayers and to circulate petitions to remove the scanners from schools.

Network news crews, one from ABC "World News Tonight" and another from the Fox News Channel, recorded the prayers and protests as part of news stories addressing the American Civil Liberties Union-sponsored lawsuit over prayers at School Board meetings.

A federal judge ruled that prayers at the beginning of meetings are unconstitutional. The School Board is appealing the decision.

When the Tangipahoa Parish Christian activist group, the Christian Community Network, learned that network news crews planned to attend Tuesday's meeting for a story on the prayer lawsuit, they contacted their members to attend the meeting, group coordinator Beth Davis said.

I'm confused - is this story about the prayer issue, or the fingerprinting issue?

Whenever Christians act like nuts, the MSM is there to record every word. Whenever Christians act in a responsible, compassionate way, the MSM is nowhere to be found.

Are you implying that not wanting the school to fingerprint your children is nuts?

It is about both - if you read the whole thing it is toward the bottom.

I agree that children should not be fingerprinted. But to say that the reason is some kind of 'end time' mark of the Beast thing is a bit nutty.

I have family in Tangipahoa Parish, so I know that there are many, many wonderful and decent people who live there. There are also a lot of nuts. This is the same parish with the ongoing devil worshipping/child sex abuse investigation.

It's a biometric scanner, it doesn't "fingerprint" the kids. It converts a fingerprint into a code that can't be used to recreate the original fingerprint.

This is about so many things actually....

this concerns me:
"The Tangipahoa Parish School System is the first system in the state to test a biometric fingerprint system that scans children's index fingers to credit their lunch accounts as they move through the cafeteria line, school system spokeswoman Cindy Benitez said."

If my kids were in a private school I'd be a tad pissed about spending tuition on Biometric systems to charge me more money. That and the finger printing issues...

As for the mark of the beast you find one Wacko in the crowd who's worried about being marked with the sign of the beast, and Bam you've got yourself a Christian hating headline.

Thanks for the local perspective. I think it goes without saying that 99% of those with concerns have legitimate concerns. The MSM focuses on the other 1%.

Actually, children should be fingerprinted by their parents. Always a good idea.

Though I don't like the school's fingerprinting children, I do think that the 1/2 hour of praying was as foolish as the Die-In's at the peace rallies in the last couple years. I'm not saying it's right, not saying it's wrong or unconstitutional; I'm just saying I think its foolish.

Man, you've sure got that right! That is one of the MSM's tools. Character assassination through caricature.

Before the meeting, McGovern and parent Janice Fairburn of Loranger acknowledged religious concerns about the scanners. The Book of Revelation talks of a "mark of the beast," which is a sign those people are damned. Some Christians believe that the fingerprint scanners are close to assigning their children a mark.

Meaning, this reporter brought up the subjest and these two woman said something like "Yeah, kinda wierd, huh?" before the meeting even began.

It's gathering information and it is one more step towards revelation where nobody will be able to buy or sell without the Beast's mark, number, or name in their hands or on their foreheads.

Good catch. MSM stirring the pot, creating it's own news.

Why? It is a peaceful thing. So what if they sue. We don't cow down to the ACLU and if they want to pray, let them.

Isn't the mark of the beast supposed to be the same mark on everybody? Aren't all fingerprints different?

People acting normal isn't news. You also don't often see news stories about Muslims who are just trying to live their lives in peace.

I had dinner with "The Beast" last night and he said he doesn't car about fingerprints.

He does have a special place for Michael Jackson though...
