I guess the Chinese don't have the lobbyists and votes that the Mexicans do. And of course, they were working for Chinese-owned small businesses instead of White-owned big businesses.

it is the employers that create the problem. Start shutting down businesses that hire illegals and you have a start to ending the magnet for illegals. Medical costs go down, crime goes down, taxes should go down. Unemployment rates go down. WOW no down side on this one.

I've got to wonder about some of them also being front businesses for the PLA.

My wife and I both enjoy Chinese restaurants so we frequent them. I've often noted that the cashier will look at the handwritten bill, take your money, give you change and close the drawer - having never rung up the charge. ie no documentation. Just to be fair, I've also noted this in other ethnic restaurants, but especially Chinese. Not gonna stop me from going though (grin).

I have turned in several Chinese restaurants over the years to the taxman because it was evident that they did not keep tax records, ie, no register tape, that they did not calculate tax correctly, did not collect tax, and did not offer a register slip with a credit card receipt. All of these things are against the law in New Hampshire and at least one restaurant has closed down that I turned in. If they ring in a no sale on the register the only way they can be charged is if they get audited and present dated records of order slips in consecutive order. The problem is, they use order slips that are duplicate numbered that allows them to escape the audit of the taxman.

You've got to wonder who is behind the explosion in the number of Chinese restaraunts in Michigan.

I like my local Chinese restarant "owners" and would hate to think that they're just pawns for the Chinese mafia. Even worse if they are exploited illegals who now will be sent home after they've seen the good life here, while being screwed outta their money.

This is the second scandal to hit this industry here. A couple of weeks ago a truck (driven by a Chinese national who spoke no Engrish) was stopped when police were alerted that it carried meat in an unrefrigerated truck. No, it wasn't dog or cat. Yes, it was gross.

In three hours, the authorities will just want to raid them again.

Problem was, an hour later they had to be raided again.

The problem with raiding a Chinese restaraunt is, you still want to raid an hour later.

Debbie Schlussel has a take on this raid, in her no prisoners style here:

In the State of Michigan, with the most concentrated Islamic population outside the Middle East, you'd think undocumented workers could be found at felafel joints all over the place. But what kind of restaurants do they raid? That's right -- Chinese restaurants. Michigan State Police raided 17 Chinese restaurants, looking for illegal and undocumented workers. It would be unfair to target Arabs and Muslims. But, at a time when Islamic terrorism is at an all time high, no problem raiding places like Ho Lee Kow and Give Me Chow. Political Incorrectness is okay, so long as it has nothing to do with the protected class of radical Islam.

Then, there is Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Special Agent in Charge Brian Moskowitz. Why isn't he investigating Middle Eastern restaurants, especially in and around Dearborn, for illegal and undocumented workers? Before he took over Detroit's ICE office, Customs raids of Muslim-owned restaurants and businesses were done and money-launderers pled guilty--like the owner of "The Sheik," who was running an international auto-theft ring and is now in prison. Now, raids of Mid-East restaurants, like La Shish, are done by the IRS. I'm sure Moskowitz doesn't want to upset his friend, "former" PFLP terrorist and eternal FBI award revokee, Imad Hamad--who was mighty upset by the raid of his fave shawarmeh joint.

Sounds like some illegal aliens are more equal than others. Mexicans and radical Muslims belong to the politically correct protected class. The ICE has easier targets to go raid in order to convince the public it cares about protecting the country. Like Debbie says, laugh at the laziness of our government in its selective (and pathetic) protection of our homeland since 9/11.

"a tremendous amount" of business records written in Chinese that must be translated

Sounds like a great opportunity for Chinese accountants.

Chinese restaurants make very large margin on the "exotic drinks" such as Mai Tai, Scorpion Bowl, Fog Cutter and Suffering Bastard.

There is Chinese restaurant in my area where if I order one of these exotic drinks while conspicously placing $20 bill under under my plate, the drinks come all night long and never show up on the bill. Try it. It might work. One who used to work in Chinese restaurant turned me on to that one so it might work in others.
