MANCHESTER, N.H. --The grandfather of a 2-year-old "mystery girl" was arraigned Thursday on charges of possessing pornographic photos of her.
Police say they were led to Richard Hawes, 63, of New Boston, by a clerk who found sexually explicit digital images on a self-serve photo kiosk at a Manchester CVS store. The clerk went to police who, desperate to identify her, released other photos of the girl on Tuesday. They said they had credible information the toddler was in danger and that her parents might not have known about it.
The girl's father, Jeffrey Hawes, of Winter Park, Fla., saw the photos Wednesday on national television and called police, according to an affidavit filed in Manchester District Court.
Jeffrey Hawes said his father had visited the family in Florida about four to six weeks ago. During a police interview, Richard Hawes said he had taken sexually explicit photos of his granddaughter with his digital camera, the affidavit said.

"
The incident took place in NH."
I read the story differently.
I read that the Grandfather had travelled to Florida and had stayed with his son and the son's family. While there -- in Florida -- grandpa took some pictures of his granddaughter on his digital camera.
He apparently tried to "develop" the pictures of his granddaughter at a CVS in New Hampshire.

I believe the photo had already been released, that is how they discovered whom the little girl was, and whom the sicko was.
It was however, totally unnecessary for the BG to re-release the photos.

I wouldn't worry about the bathtub pictures. I'm pretty sure they have guidelines for what is considered sexually explicit. Most parents have pictures of young children in the tub etc. I would also think the "context" of the roll would have something to do with it.

Yet another reason that I will never, ever be a Christian.A clarification should be made: if a victim feels like forgiving him, that's their prerogative.
If the abuser sees the error of his ways and turns to Christ in remorse, great.
But, as a Christian, I will point out that the personal forgiveness/conversion of the two principals is immaterial to public safety: the true Christian position is that he should be given a few days to repent if he wants and then he should be killed.
It would be positively unChristian to everyone else to let such an individual live and risk his returning to his old bad habits again.
It is a Christian moral imperative to defend the vulnerable from those who would prey upon them - the Bible emphasizes this moral principle at great length and I could quote chapter and verse extensively.

it USED to be a capital crime, now just a different lifestyle - like slitting your wife's throat and hacking a delivery boy...

I can't visualize what the "sexually explicit photographs" he took of his of his precious little grand daughter looked like. So I'll have to trust the authorities with this one.

What I can say about this since I lived through this and much much worse is the only way you can not let your past ruin your future is to find a way to let it go. I am a Jesus Freak but that does not mean you just walk around forgiving everything and everyone. However in order to let it go so you have some kind of future that is not jacked up and plagued with yesterday is to forgive it.
Not let the person off, forgive it so you can let it go. I am free of those shackles because I don't want to pay with the rest of my life what was not my debt to start with. Evil adults stole my childhood I would be insane to give them my adulthood. Jesus for me helps me because when it gets dark I have a refuge. A refuge man can not provide what is man gonna say "sorry" ?
Take a wild guess what happens to the people who don't let it go, they self destruct or inflict abuse on others. For some letting it go is a lifelong attempt and it could be any healthy way they need. The thing is when you are a child abuse vic, you tend to attract other child abuse vic's as adults and you would be very surprised how many sexual abuse vic's there are. But most will never know because many will never speak of it except to another vic, mostly male vic's don't talk of it.
I took the "narrow" path because I did not want to be the parent I was raised with. So saying you forgive because you found Jesus may sound simple but it is not, not for a moment.

I would pay money if the authorities would let me do it.

My friend works in the photo department at Walgreens. They are trained to distinguish the difference between child porn and bathtub photos. I would assume that CVS Pharmacy works the same. So this guy was most likely taking very disturbing photos and justly should be thrown into jail.

That was my question. I guess the authorities made the correct judgement, and I will trust them unless I find different evidence.

I agree, but the 5 counts of posession of child porn tells me they found more when they busted him.

:) That's allot to live up to!
Her is the other side. Kezekiel and I have wonderful girls (our children) our youngest (18), when she was 2 or 3 I used to let her finger paint in the bathtub naked, less clean up for me and she did not have to worry about mess.
She did some really cute stuff and I took a few pics of her covered in paint you could not see anything "private". When I went to pick them up Kodak informed me and this was 15 or 16 years ago that they blacked out the pics of her because it could be seen as pornography!
I was so bummed cause there was nothing dirty about them at all, this is one of the legacies the pedophiles have left to us. How very sad something so innocent can be seen as something else. Abusive adults affect everyone in some way.
But there are allot of good people if you knew my husband you would know I married the best man that walks the earth and any deficits I may have had as a parent he made up for our daughters will pick well, one already has the cycle stopped with me and my siblings so it can stop but grace needs freedom and people need to be real because child vic's have already lived lies.... hmmmm I talk to much :)

"Tall tree. Short rope." Here on FR, I so frequently read posts from those who say there is absolutely no justification for the existence of pit bull terriers. I could think of nothing better than for a pack of hungry ones to be set loose on gran'pa here....

I read on Foxnews that the child was in the custody of authorities. If an out of state family member is the perp, and it was the Dad that called the cops, why on earth does Social Services take the kid away from her parents? How does that help the child??
