WTC Shrine 'Hijack' (This must not happen!)
NY Post ^ | June 9, 2005 | Dan Mandan

June 9, 2005 -- A World Trade Center Memorial Foundation director is raising a storm over the International Freedom Center planned for Ground Zero, charging that it will slight memories of 9/11 by staging exhibits that have nothing to do with the tragedy.

Debra Burlingame also says that some people involved in the Freedom Center have a blame-America political bent and have undermined the war on terror.

She has raised the specter of the Freedom Center being used to teach about Native American genocide, lynchings in the South, the Holocaust, Chinese dissidents and abuse at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

"I think the American people will be shocked" when the Freedom Center opens its doors in 2010, said Burlingame, whose brother Charles "Chic" Burlingame was the pilot of the American Airlines flight that was flown into the Pentagon on 9/11.

In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece on Tuesday, Burlingame raised questions about Freedom Center head Tom Bernstein, who she notes is the president of Human Rights First. The group has sued on behalf of terror detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She also cites several academics and others, among the dozens of advisers to the Freedom Center, as a "Who's Who of the human rights, Guantanamo-obsessed world."

Thanks for this post. Our 9-11 dead should be above political correctness.

Yep. She was on with Tony Snow yesterday and I think Tony said he'd post some links of whom to contact. I'll check it out and post them here....

I heard a snipet of a report on this earlier today.

Typical how all these special interests get themselves involved in stuff that has nothing to do with their agendas...just so they can promote those agendas. Once there was a young unarmed black man in my hometown who was killed by police officers. At a protest rally regarding the killing, there were all sorts of other agendas represented -- everything from anti-abortionists to advocates of "jobs for minorities."

Some causes may be noble (not in this 9/11 case), but they don't belong in every event.

In this case, sounds like the Freedom Center would be not only revisionist history, but also a slap in the face to the loved ones of the 9/11 victims.

Mr. Bernstein is the President of the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the WNYC Foundation, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

I suggest that we relocate the anti-American exhibit to this building in picturesque upstate NY:

We've raised enough of a stink to force the president of the International "Freedom" Center to defend this abomination in today's WSJ.

I dunno. I heard the Rachel Corrie - Modern Day Heroine! exhibit was only going to occupy 2,700 sq ft.

The Director of the National Museum of Air and Space got canned for a similar plan to show Japan as "the victim of American aggression" in World War II. We need to do the same thing for the director of this proposed insult to America.

At a protest rally regarding the killing, there were all sorts of other agendas represented -- everything from anti-abortionists to advocates of "jobs for minorities."

I noticed the same thing at the only SF 'rally' I ever attended, immediately after the Tienanmen Massacre.

Speaker after speaker took the microphone ranting about every leftwing cause. There was very little mention of the main reason for the rally, and when mention was made it was only by speakers who obviously were chinese nationals.
