More than a year after promising on national television to release his full military record, Senator Kerry of Massachusetts authorized the Navy last month to provide his service file to selected news organizations.
However, Mr. Kerry has not given the military permission to disclose the records to the general public, fueling continued speculation by the senator's critics that he is attempting to hush up some aspect of his service.
The news organizations that have seen the latest collection of documents reported that there was little new information aside from a copy of Mr. Kerry's Yale University transcript showing that the future politician received some mediocre marks.
The new release was prompted by a privacy waiver form, known as an SF-180, that Mr. Kerry signed on May 20, according a spokesman for the senator, David Wade.
A Navy spokesman, Lieutenant Commander Daniel Hernandez, said the waiver applied only to the Boston Globe and did not authorize release of Mr. Kerry's records to the public.
"Kerry controls the release of his records," Commander Hernandez said yesterday. "You have to talk to his office."
The senator also agreed to allow the Los Angeles Times to see his full record, Mr. Wade said yesterday. The spokesman did not respond to a question about why Mr. Kerry did not execute a broader release to all press organizations and the public. Asked whether the senator would permit release of the records to The New York Sun, Mr. Wade said, "The issue is over."

Kerry is only adding fuel to the fire, not putting it out.
If there were nothing to hide he could certainly make a fool out of everyone thinking something damaging was in there.
Why doesn't he call their "bluff," then?
To me, the answer is obvious.
Maybe the MSM should pretend it's some kind of information relating to Bush and Iraq - then they would be all over this story 24/7!

Fortunately, both the Boston Globe and the LA Times have proven themselves to be free of any bias which might be reflected in their reporting.

We need to blast this story everywhere. All of us need to send this link to talk radio shows, newspapers and Drudge! I'll be some kind of p*ssed off if this loser gets away with the media giving it a collective yawn.

I understand that he sent it to a department that only submits limited releases but there is a department that the SF-180 could be sent to that would release all the documents.

His only hope for fame may very likely be the warning: "Pull that kind of stunt and your name is Kerry".

I don't give a rusty rip about Kerry's college transcript(s), I want to know about the conditions of his discharge and whether or not he was breaking the law when, as a navy officer, he was meeting with the Vietnamese in Paris.
It appears that the case could be made that he is not even a legitimate senator.

Kerry is doing the standard MA shuffel.
Lie and mislead the people on things, and have the local media cover it up. If they don't take part in the coverup the local media loses access.
To: JakeINJoisey
From what I understand, this is just more of Kerry cuteness. The Boston Globe apparently received the records from the Navy. However, the Navy does not keep such archived records. They are kept at the Bureau of Records (I think I have the name right). It sounds like he had the archived records released to the navy, then from the navy to the Boston Globe.
However, records released by the navy fall under the privacy act, so unless he specifically requested otherwise, many records of his that the navy has cannot be released. Furthermore, the navy can neither confirm nor deny that other records of his exist.
A shrewd tactical move on his part, at least it is on the surface. However, this will satisfy nobody because of his past history on the subject.

To: demkicker
Heck, forget this story. The real story is that he went to the Navy when he knew full well that the complete file could only be found in the archives that handle ALL federal employees.
Researchers wouldn't have gone to the Navy because military records are notoriously incomplete. Especially if there is embarrassing information in them.

You are correct. You don't go to the branch that you served in for your records, you go here
National Personnel Records Center
Military Personnel Records
9700 Page Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100
This is just another Kerry Dodge.
