Howard Dean cant catch a break. The guy talks about Republicans in precisely the same way other Democrats talk about Republicans, and everybody makes him out to be a raving Sterno bum. Hillary Clintons weekend remarks differed little in substance, tone or tenor from Deans recent complaints about the GOP, but she didnt get skewered, except by right-wingers like me. She was feted as a future president.
Deans most recent controversial outburst that Republicans are a bunch of Christian white guys took place at a San Francisco forum for minority activists and journalists. In his own way, Dean reverted to an old Democratic practice: He was playing the race card. But unlike Democrats in other eras, he also acknowledged as he has in other recent conversations with black and Hispanic party regulars that black voters no longer love Democrats as they once did. The party takes them for granted, treating them more like the help than the partys most indispensable constituency. Dean noted that he intended to address the problem by visiting early and often, rather than in the weeks immediately before the next presidential plebiscite.
In subtle and unstated ways, Howard Dean has aired a dirty little secret. Democrats have a growing problem with black voters, and it stems from three sources. First comes the simple fact that government help has proved an unmitigated disaster for low-income black Americans. Eighty years ago, black children in such places as New York, Philadelphia and Detroit were more likely to grow up in two-parent homes than whites. Now, 70 percent of the nations black children are born out of wedlock, black men comprise 70 percent of the nations prison population, black graduation rates lag far behind white rates

Some republicans have started doing the same (such as McCain), but I think they misunderstand us. We are different than the democrat sheep. I will jump ship if I think they've gone RINO, regardless of the poor alternatives.
"Now, 70 percent of the nations black children are born out of wedlock, black men comprise 70 percent of the nations prison population..."
OMG, those are two really bad stats. I know the first one is pretty accurate, is the second one also?
I heard that in Cali like 25% of the prison pop. are illegals. Is there another white man in prison in Cali besides Scott Peterson?
Fox News needs to fix their website. That was just painful trying to read the rest of Tony's essay.
Displays just fine for me and other colleagues here at work. Hopefully Tony will switch to www.tonysnow.com as the root address URL for all of his content so we can post the complete article eventually.
Michael Jackson soon, perhaps? Oh wait, I forgot the "man" thing...as did he.
Another teensy problem with the Dems strategy on the black vote is is the positive side of the evolving black demographic. Perhaps the best example was from former NBA star Chales Barkley. When he retired home he commented on his Republican affiliation. When Granny chastised Charles for joining the Republicans, in her words, "The party of the rich", Barkley responed calmly, " But Granma, I AM rich!"
For those not caught in the drug/gang inner city trap, the rate of moving on up, at least economically, among blacks is really booming. The Dems will still own this demographic for a while, but more and more successful black voters are pausing to wonder why they allow themselves to be taken for granted by a Party that actively works against the interests of the black winners in this economy.
One black guy I work with is an unabashed Republican. Loves Rush. He told me he got tired of people like the Clintons telling him what to think.

The dam is breaking wide open with black Republicans coming out of the woodwork and the libs cannot stop the flow.
Prediction: 2008 Republican Presidential Candidate will take around 15% of the black vote.
Truth. As more and more blacks realize that the Democrat policies perpetuate their poverty, and prevent their rising above the economic situations which they were born into, the more blacks that will find themselves looking at the Republican Party. And the more they look at our Party, the more they'll realize how much they have in common with the Republicans and how little they have in common with the Democrats.
There are so many very well known black Republicans. I'd add JC Watts to that list. Sean Hannity had him on his radio show yesterday afternoon. JC was excellent as usual.
Thanks for your support, black America!
Thanks for letting us use your churches as campaign stops!
Thanks for making us your new masters for all these years!
Thanks for your almost unanimous voting support!
Thanks for your continuous acceptance of our premise that all your problems are the fault of "the white man".
Agreed. Leaving JC off the list was a glaring omission.
Yes, I'm sure we could come up with many, many more.
Yes, Charles Manson.
Michael Steele, Maryland Lt. Governor (who may run for Sarbane's Senate seat)
Tony, this article made me think a little. How much am I, too, being led by the nose by the Legacy Media in finding fault with Dean the same way I should for Hillary's nearly-identical comments?
Add Ken Blackwell to the list as well.
I've come to the conclusion that having Dean s te head of the DNC is a rat plot...they knew what he was like before he was appointed....Hillary will come in and save the party......
