Do you know of any nation or society in the history of the world where the predominate culture (that would be anglo here) ever volunteered to be diminished to minority status without conquest or war?...simply from guilt or fear of being called racist? nuts..

I'm not aware of any.

It's perfectly natural for Anglos and even other natives here to resent the coming primarily Mexican majority here ...most of which has come here illegally.

The sheer magnitude of this is going to transform this country like no one can even imagine.

And the voting patterns of most of these immigrants are not like those of the Cubanos or professional class Colombians or Chilenas ...not at all. Most who cluster in urban areas will vote Dem...the stats prove that.

Even Brasilians in Florida voted majority for Kerry in 04. That surprised me.

My ex is a Carioaca and I share two daughters with her and husband in law.

and I paid big bucks to get her legal.

I lived in Colombia, Brasil, Venezuela and Nicaragua a bit in the 80s and early 90s....and know all of Latin America as well or better than any freeper I'd guess.

Culture is what it is. Sorry if that offends...lol...although most Norte Bogotanos or worse yet Paisas think they are far more cultured than us.

The problem is the volume and the illegality. The only reason latin is in the mix is proximity. It could be from anywhere...it would be the same problem more or less.

Our population has doubled in 30 years ...80% from immigrants and their offspring and anchor relatives etc....not counting the 20-30 million illegals.

This is a huge problem and those who think it is not are naive and have scant historical perspective in my view.

Calling those of us who feel that way racist may make you feel superior but you are fool......or maybe you desire to see Anglos diminished here or you think the US can absorb the entire 3rd world. If it's the former then you are a racist as well then aren't you? Got a bone to pick with gringos maybe?

I think Bogotanos or Cachacos are swell but I know that Colombia would resent the piss out of Gringos streaming in down there and taking over....it would not be allowed to happen simply put.

It shows how weak we have become spiritually as a nation that would would even have to debate and qualify such things as a secure border or maintaining the core culture or asking for a cautious immigration plan from our leaders.

It's naive and is going to alter this country into something no one will recognize in 100 years baring a cataclysm.

I went to an awards ceremony today at my son's middle school in San Diego. (He goes to a public school for reasons too complex to go into here. If you know the initials "IEP" you will have a clue.) There were maybe 300 kids in the assembly hall, fully half are hispanic illegal aliens who are bussed in. About 100 parents were seated on the left side of the hall, kids to the middle and right.

The event began with the female principal on the stage asking for everyone to rise, face the flag, and say the pledge of allegiance.

It was chaos. Hooting, joking, yelling during the pledge of allegiance, which was drowned out. It was unbelievable.

The principal was mortified, and using the microphone on the lectern, she dressed down the students, saying they had disgraced the country, the flag, our troops who are fighting for our freedom overseas. It was amazing, and about half (guess which half) of the parents applauded her when she was done.

I'm afraid that we are being invaded, it's an "illegal immivasion." Many or perhaps most of these kids don't want to be Americans, don't even like America, they're just here for the free education, money, etc. They don't want to assimilate, they want to take over in hispanic enclaves. They consider their enclaves Mexican territory on reconquered land.

Twenty years from now, our children will curse our stupidity and naivete. We are setting our children up for an ethnic and cultural civil war; we are going to give them Kosovo and Bosnia times 100 as their inheritance.

(Once upon a time, the majority Serbs in the Serbian province of Kosovo thought allowing lots of illegal aliens from Albania into Kosovo was a great idea. Lots of cheap labor! Look where that got the Kosovo Serbs, in the end. If you can find any alive, who are not in hiding in the land of their grand fathers.)

I think you've nailed the heart of the problem.

I'm against Illegal immigration as much as anyone. In addition the Latinos I know are highly offended by it due to the fact that our own government is slapping them in the face by ignoring it. Many of them worked for 5-8 years and spent lots of money with lawyers doing it "The Right Way" in respect for our laws and our nation.

Then you have the criminals who simply cross over and sap our infrastructure by not paying taxes, bankrupting hospitals over non-payment of emergency care, hit and run accidents and other criminal activities.

Any decent American, born or recent opposes this activity .

As far as rascism, partiotism isn't racism. Many here are concerned over the impact of nonassimilation of the new cultures arriving here. Suffice to say there there are many of us working "overtime" to ensure that we do embrace these new comers. Our children will grow up loving and respecting this nation. They will share a voice with the Latino community, we are doing our best to ensure that they speak it with the values that will serve and preserve the nation that we knew growing up.

I know you aren't being rascist. I have read hundreds of your posts and respect your opinions...both of you.

My initial commentary was thrown in because I felt the thread needed to have more perspective on the good side of the issue. Legal Latinos know the problems associated with the real issue. As long as people know it's not hispanics in general. They are a good and decent people and those who come here respecting our laws and values will make outstanding American citizens.

As far as "voluntary acceptance" of the issue. I don't accept it at all. Neither do my Latino friends. Like I said, many of them are PO'd and insulted as much as any of us. "What makes them special that they can ignore the law we worked so hard to obey" is the general attititude. They are disgusted as much as any of us.

I know the issue is very real and dangerous to our society. I hold the government itself responsible for not defending our borders. I can only do so much as one man. Raising my children to love and respect this nation is among the bests things I can contribute.

My wife came here to live her dream. We married the year after she became a citizen through the legal process, which took many, many years. If people knew how much she loved this country and how hard she worked to become a citizen, they'd be inspired, not threatened.

And again, the real issue of illegals overrunning our nation and sapping it's strength is very much a concern. We will need to change our own government's attitude to correct it.
