Such hypocrites. If they remotely believed sweet reason is always the answer, why would they want to pass a law? Just convince everyone to do it your way by talking to them. Instead they want cops to beat people with sticks and snap handcuffs on them and manhandle them into locked rooms, to support their fantasy that you never have to touch somebody, you can just talk to them instead. It is incoherent raving nonsense.

I have 2 seperate neighbors whos kids have called DCF, Dept. Children, Families, after getting in a simple argument. They do it for spite. And the parents are handcuffed by these laws.

When grocery shopping up here (unfortunately, I must eat),especially in the college towns, you see the result of this type of thinking.

You'll see an adult moonbat trying to explain to her 3 or 4 year old offspring what the child 'needs to do'. The kid just keeps right on taking things off of shelves, climbing them, with the parent halfheartedly asking the kid to 'please put that back' a number of times while continuing to focus on her shopping (I don't think she realizes there are other people trying to shop). You know she's getting impatient when 'time out' is suggested or bribery is used ("If you stop that I'll buy you XYZ.").

According to my Dad, I behaved like this...ONCE. I wasn't a problem after that!

People who want to enact laws like this lose sight of the benefit of corporal punishment. If done properly, it is NOT a regular occurrence. It is a lesson that usually need only be taught one time.

The smart kids won't just be protected, they'll be in charge.

"Daddy, if you don't get me a pony, I'm going to tell the Massachussettes gestapo that you spanked me, and you'll go to jail for a long long time!"

Really, though, we can kill the kids in the womb, but can't spank them? This people just hate traditional families with a passion, don't they?

Last week some of the neighbor kids trashed our back yard with bitten apples. When my husband asked them to clean up the mess the spokesman for the group mouthed off with, "it's your property, it's your mess!" After a bit more of my husband being mad and the spokesman mouthing off, my husband went into the backyard.
By this time the parents of the kid who lived on that side told them to pick up the mess. My husband slammed the gate and they could not get in. They were banned from our property for the week.
I told Mr. Spokesman today that he was allowed back if he followed our rules and did not talk back to us (later I found out he told my kids that he talked back to my husband because he talked back to him). The girl who lives on that side of the property (where the apples came from) is no longer allowed to play with my children because her parents are afraid my husband will yell at her -- all because he slammed the gate.
I told my kids in my dad's day the kid who sassed would have been spanked, then re-spanked if he ran crying to his parents. It seems either the brats run the neighborhood or the kids of families who insist on discipline become ostracized.

"He who spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes" (Proverbs 13:24)

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ..." (The U.S. Constitution)

Seems pretty cut-and-dried to me.

The measure would prohibit corporal punishment including whipping, spanking and pinching

Pinching will be illegal now? Sheesh! Why not just cut to the chase and say "Causing any inconvience to the child is illegal"

In Japan, parents typically don't discipline children until they are in school. The rationale is that the children will eventually learn the appropriate behaviors. The children are wild for their first couple of years, but they eventually settle down. It seems to work out. Of course, Japanese society has a much stronger demand for conformity in all age groups that American society.

Regardless, I wouldn't consider paddling a child until they were at least 5 or so. What use is it to punish a child that won't remember the punishment?

We had that problem one time. "This is child abuse."

I went upstairs and packed his bag, told him he was going to have to go to foster care, because I was going to jail.

And that was the end of that. LOL

Southern Virginia--Norfolk, Hampton Roads. You get Spring, Summer, mild Winters, and they know how to treat Vets here.

Thanks for your service.

It's already illegal

In Mass?

It is not illegal. The liberals, thus far, want to make you feel like it is illegal, or that if you spanking your children, you're a monster. But it's not illegal - yet.

"He forgot his book. I went upstairs, I got my belt."

I would hope that there is more to this than that.

I suspect that the MSM left out the details to paint this guy as a tyrant.

I wouldn't spank my son if he forgot his book, but if he habitually forgot his book and would not be corrected by other means, then I would. and I wouldn't be a tyrant.

It's called correction; it so that the child can become correct - in his behavior.

What use is it to punish a child that won't remember the punishment?

A younger child won't remember the incident, but the discipine will remain with the child.

Spanking isn't to injure a child. A very thin rod applied to the lower buttocks once or twice, will correct a younger child. It stings, but does not injure. They equate the pain with discipline but do not remember the incident.

Thank you.
That is pretty much the area I was looking. I read the Hampton Roads newspaper (on-line edition). It's one of the few papers I can read without blowing my blood pressure through the roof.

If this law is passed, and a child acts up and there is no reasoning with the child, the parent will have to call the police who will have special training in such cases and if the police don't do it right the parent or child can then sue the state. Remember the child that acted up in school a few weeks ago and the police had to be called and the child was handcuffed and taken out; such will be the norm if this law is passed. Then soon as a few of these happen, I'm sure that the law would then be repelled.

Let's see if I got this straight. In a little while it will be illegal to spank a child but teaching them fisting will still be allowed?

What's in the water up there?

Spanking is required to raise a child in the way they should go.

I'm a firm believer in Bill Cosby's theories on it. All children are born with their brains in their backside and only repeated warmings of that area will help the brain rise with the heat until it eventually takes it's proper place in their heads.

Back when I was a kid (60's) we had a few kids who got physically abused by over strict parents. But we had hardly any who were killed in gang wars or drug overdoses or while commiting crimes.

Now with all the emphasis on eliminating corporal punishment for children we still have a few kids who get physically abused but we have ton's more who die from gang wars, drugs, STD's, criminal activity etc.

Seems that the average child was far better off getting spanked.

(And I was one of the abused ones)
