Gay Rights Battlefields Spread to Public Schools
NY Times ^ | June 9, 2005 | MICHAEL JANOFSKY

Emboldened by the political right's growing influence on public policy, opponents of school activities aimed at educating students about homosexuality or promoting acceptance of gays and lesbians are mounting challenges to such programs, at individual schools, at statehouses and in Congress.

Chief among the targets are sex education programs that include discussions of homosexuality, and after-school clubs that bring gay and straight students together, two initiatives that gained assent in numerous schools over the last decade.

In many cases, the opponents have been successful. In Montgomery County, Md., for example, parents went to court to block a health education course that offered a discussion of homosexuality, while in Cleveland, Ga., gay and lesbian students were barred from forming a high school club of gay and straight youths.

Leading figures on both sides of the fight say they have never seen passions about public school activities run so high. They agree that much of the reason is conservative groups' eagerness to meet their adversaries with a forcefulness more common to modern-day election campaigns.

"The intensity of the culture wars has heated up over the last few years," said J. Michael Johnson, a lawyer with the Alliance Defense Fund, a conservative group that specializes in issues involving religion. "People are becoming more aware that they have rights, and they're feeling more emboldened to defend them. Across the country, people are saying enough is enough."

Mathew D. Staver, president and general counsel of another conservative group, Liberty Counsel, said: "We're concerned about the effort to capture youth through indoctrination into the homosexual lifestyle. Students are a captive audience, and they are being targeted by groups with that as an agenda."

The growing conflicts are centering on three issues: whether classrooms are an appropriate venue to explore issues of homosexuality, whether schools should lend...

So the NYT only writes about the recruiting efforts of homosexuals on children when the exposure has turned the public against the homosexuals.

Does the NYT serve any function other than a "gay" activist rag?

Absolutely I was a student during the 90's and I can tell you for a fact that alot of this went on. It is very political and you ARE judged if you disagree with what they're telling you.

The Family Research Council should team up with these people. I'm sure they are involved in similar cases already.

"I just don't feel like homosexual clubs have anything to do with readin', writin' and 'rithmetic," Ga. State Sen. Nancy Schaffer.

'nough said. Period. Next case.

Yes, they also serve to destroy the miliary's morale where ever possible. And they just love pushing other tripe agendas that most of the U.S citizenry abhores.

I don't care how many politically correct rubber-stamp studies are done... there is no way a 14 year old child can be sure they're homosexual.

Well, in my private view, these aggressive gays can just bugger off . . .

But nobody listens to me. I'm just a geezer trapped in the People Republick of Portland.

The homosexual clubs are only about recruiting CHILDREN into the recreational sex fetish.

There is no place for recreational sex when it comes to minors.

The left insisted that the dismantling of the sodomy laws was because they affected "consenting ADULTS". The public sure fell for that one.

Now they just keep setting that age of consent lower and lower.

Defining deviancy downwards.

Homosexual Agenda Ping.

Good news. I like this statement:

"Across the country, people are saying enough is enough."

Except that I'd say "Across the country, people are saying that way too much is way too much."

May this be the beginning of a huge movement to stuff the "gay" rights misery back into the closet where it belongs.

Let me know if you want on/off this pinglist.

(Note: Someone asked to be added and I think I forgot to add the name. If you read this, ask me again - sorry!)

Homosexuals can't breed to increase their numbers. They're unnatural. They have to steal other peoples children.

I thought age of consent laws were getting higher, not lower.

The homosexuals have already been to the U.N. to get the age of legal consent down to 10 years old. The U.N. appeared to be listening until they found out the meetings were sponsored by the North American Man/Boy Love Association - a male homosexual boy rape group.

I know it has been used in the housebreaking of puppies. I won't go into the details, but it looked very appropriate.
