I'm *all for* that. I am boggled that employers aren't held responsible for the immigration status of employees... in fact... as an employer I'm not even allowed to ask.
This is where the guest worker card comes in. I'd be willing to bet that most of the people coming across the border already *have* jobs waiting for them someplace. OK... so let the employer sponsor them and their card and then agree to keep track of them.

Uh, NO, I don't think I'll buy that you're an employer, at least, certainly not one that hires anyone legally. As an employer you are REQUIRED to ask immigration status! What EMPLOYER doesn't know to have their employees fill out an I-9? They're right here: http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-9.htm

Sounds great, but how is a card in their pockets going to stop others from coming in? And wont the ones coming in without this card, work for less than those with a card? If I am not mistaken, an entire industry has been created to produce fraudulent documents for undocumented workers. What would stop them from doing this? What would stop an employer from hiring those without the cards, that would work for less money?
Excuse me? As an employer, you are required to have your employees complete an I-9. How is that not asking?
Employers should call 888-464-4218 every time you are hiring a new employee or have suspicions about an existing employee. You will know very quickly if there is problem with his/her ID papers.
