"Translation: I'm going to try to spin some more lies..." I agree. I think the key to the story is this: Bush is feeling some pressure, and feels he has to throw some kind of bone to DeLay, but he still believes he can stonewall the immigration issue---continue the "do nothing" policy.
I do not believe, however, the problem will go unaddressed till 2008. I predict a large setback for the GOP in 2006, based on the fillibuster failure + immigration. I think the GOP conservative focus in 2006 will be more in defeating RINOs than Democrats.
In the short run, the GOP will suffer. In the long run, it will be strengthened. In the aftermath of the 2006 debacle, I believe Bush will reluctantly return to the business of government, after his happy interlude of focus on Social Security, stem cells, and Terry Shiavo.
Know this well, the people who come to these forums and espouse their Pro-Illegal(amnesty) views are traitors and have the blood of Americans on their hands.

You direct our attention wisely. I see it a little differently. Hillary's basic game is to play the "tough conservative"---only relative to the Democrats. I do not believe she is going after conservative votes with this. She is going after the votes in the middle. I think she can safely sit this one out and let the GOP tear themselves apart over it.
The immigrant invasion has degraded the glories of US democracy, and exploited our precious freedoms for fraudulent personal gain.
The latest outrage is foreigners renting out their SS numbers so their compadres can fraudulently collect tax-paid benefits.
It's enormously revealing, and indicative of the problem we're up against, that Americans are bashed and belittled for simply defending their country.
We, the people---the taxpayers---are continually ignored b/c we want it stopped and criminals prosectued.
Let us not forget that America is a democracy, governed by a Constitution. and that every American worth his/her salt comes to the aid of their country when it is under attack.
We cannot tolerate self-appointed tribal supra-governments, run by self-important dictators undermining democracy, decreeing what Americans can think, or speak.
What these foreigners need to do is seek professional help for their self-esteem problems, rather than getting ego gratification by beating up on, and ripping off, Americans.
Anyone who "questions" Bush's stance on immigration needs to realize his his stance is the norm amongst Republicans. They are all afraid of properly securing the borders and deporting the illegals for fear of being branded as racists.
The one lone Republican who will take a proactive stance on the issue is Tom Tancredo, the Congressman from Colorado.
This issue will be the one issue that divides the Republicans in '08, but I'm willing to bet that most Republicans (including Hispanics) will be in favor of a candidate that properly deals with the issue.

Short form:
It all depends upon one thing: Getting the approval of the Feds for private companies to arrest/hold/detain the illegals on their own (under supervision, of course, just like the private prisons in use throughout the US).
Once arrested trying to cross, the illegal is placed into one of the "camps". No pay. No lawyers. Administrative hearing or arraignment, followed by a set amount of time put to hard labor. Building a barrier. They are charged for their food, their housing, medication, you name it. If they work hard, and stay straight, they can pay off their arrest quickly - or on time. If not, they begin to "owe" the company. Additional time to work it off. Multiple offender? Longer time yet.
Yes, it sounds just like slavery. Sounds like the flow of illegals would come to a screeching halt real quick. You want in? FOLLOW THE DAMNED LAWS!!

Good line! I think they understand the division of labor though. The dem job is to undermine our security from within. There are plenty willing to attack---once our guard is sufficiently lowered.
