WASHINGTON - In a meeting with members of Congress, President Bush said he needs to do a better job explaining his position on immigration changes, House Majority Leader Tom Delay said Wednesday.

"He admitted he hasn't done a very good job in being clear to the American people where he's coming from, and he's going to try to do better," said Delay, who attended the White House session where the president discussed his legislative agenda.

I'm late to this thread.

But does this statement get the "No $h*t Sherlock" award for the evening?

"There is only one thing I want to hear G.W. say and that is he is sealing the borders and ordering I.C.E. to hunt-down the illegals that are already here. If he doesn't do that it's worthless."

Hasn't done a good job?

Yeah, I guess so. With all his BS about "temporary guest workers" puh-lease, give me a break.

If GWB is a conservative AT ALL he should take some kind of stand on illegal immigration before a nuke goes off in some US city.

Screw this third rail crap, let's go! for cripes sake! ARGGHGH!! choke gasp cough!!!

I am concerned that the damage can not be reversed. When northern interior states start complaining that they can't keep up with the illegal problem, then it has gone too far !

RealID will be just as effective as our current passport/visa/driver license system at stopping terror (which is to say not at all). Meanwhile, it is a curtailment of the liberties of upstanding american citizens.

All border crossers will be required to have passports(not just drivers licenses) by 2008. That's good news and that's not a curtailment on one's liberties.

No wall is going to work completely, and

And that's okay. The Minutemen showed the BP how to do their job here in April. If we can shut the border down to the same extent as they did, then I don't think we need a wall.

But that has to be coupled with a program of interior enforcement that works to remove illegals from the US.

"President Bush will have to adjust to it in order to lead or he will be on the wrong side of History pertaining to this issue."

President Bush is already on the wrong side of history on immigration. He's gonna have to come up with some kind of Texas Two-Step to explain his abrogation of his oath of office, and he ain't gonna be successful.

Minuteman Project, April '05, 23 miles of border in Cochise County, AZ.

Apprehensions went from 800 a day to less than 80 per day. That's close enough to being sealed for me...

think the guest worker card idea is a pretty good one...Ease the flood so that the border patrol

Historically, offering a worker card has increased the flood, not decreased it. Search on the keyword 'aliens' and read the FR posts for the last 8 months.

It's all there, you just have to read it to see it...

as an employer I'm not even allowed to ask.

Excuse me? As an employer, you are required to have your employees complete an I-9. How is that not asking?

The title is misleading. Reading the article further, I came across this: Asked about DeLay's comments, White House spokesman Taylor Gross said are no updates to Bush's immigration principles.

"I think the American people understand that the president is going to continue to make America a safer place," Gross said.

" BTW, it's to bad that tancredo wasn't squawking about deporting this guy.'

If Tancredo was really serious about illegal immigration, he would start in his own backyard-the ski resorts of Colorado.
The resorts freely admit that they could not operate without illegal immigrants. It's the dirty little secret of Colorado tourism .
The WalMart in Avon is known by the locals as MexiMart.
The liftees at the ski resorts are generally Americans and Aussies ( here during the Australian summer, our winter .)
However, the resorts use the illegals in the subterranean areas, where they can't generally be seen by the public, such as laundry ,off season landscaping and the kitchen.
The resort employee parking lots at shift change could be Guadalajara, Mexico.
Just across I-70 from Cordillera ( the ritzy resort of Kobe Bryant fame ) are trailer parks crammed with illegals, sleeping 4 to a mattress.
Anyone who lives or vacations in Colorado knows this as fact, why doesn't Tancredo ?

High Country News - November 19, 2001:

Resort Counties Push For Legal Workers
by David Frey

Proposal from Colorado resort towns would expand guest-worker program

"This winter, Vail Resorts asked the Immigration and Naturalization Service for more than 1,500 H-2B visas, an eighth of the company’s expected workforce.
About 200 of Aspen Skiing Co.’s expected 3,500 workers are slated to come on the same program.
But for most smaller employers, says Jim Laing, vice president for human resources at Aspen Skiing Co., the temporary visa programs are too complicated, involving state and federal officials,
lots of time and lots of money.
Since tourist economies are seasonal, many employers say they can’t wait for the federal government to issue visas.
Instead, they hire illegals and don’t ask too many questions."

If Tancredo is unaware of this situation he is either asleep at the switch or a hypocrite, afraid of rocking the Colorado tourism boat.
Tancredo should first deal with the situation in his home state and be less holier than thou if he wants to be a legitimate player in the illegal immigration crisis.
And as a major Bushbot, I hope that President Bush will realize and acknowledge that illegal immigration is a national crisis and not merely a social or labor problem.

But that has to be coupled with a program of interior enforcement that works to remove illegals from the US.

So you're hip with the idea of requiring internal passports to move state to state, and deporting anybody that doesn't have the proper "papers"?

I had no idea it would be this easy.

Cornyn I AM sure of. Check out his ACU Conservative rating- 100 % last time I looked. He is our best hope in 08. I promise everybody that if the Republicans elect McCain, I will STAY HOME election day and give it to Hillary.

>>Apprehensions went from 800 a day to less than 80 per day.<<

Just imagine if the Minutemen has the support equipment that the BP does. Apprehensions would probably go from 800 to 8.

Employers should call 888-464-4218 every time you are hiring a new employee or have suspicions about an existing employee. You will know very quickly if there is problem with his/her ID papers.
