WASHINGTON - In a meeting with members of Congress, President Bush said he needs to do a better job explaining his position on immigration changes, House Majority Leader Tom Delay said Wednesday.

"He admitted he hasn't done a very good job in being clear to the American people where he's coming from, and he's going to try to do better," said Delay, who attended the White House session where the president discussed his legislative agenda.

And you're in the 2% range...But 1.5% of you guys are illegal aliens.

Uh read reply #111 again.

BTW, you can count me as saying to cut off or limit welfare benefits.

Carloads of Mexicans roam the Orlando area now. Used to see very few, but this ended about the same time as last year's hurricanes did.

An illegal Mexican ran a red light and killed some legal immigrants from Columbia yesterday.

"One way to help a great deal is to try to separate the people that are the real problem from the people that really aren't the real problem."

Ramius, there are two problems not one. The first one we agree on and that is security.

The 2nd one is economic. In a prior post you said you were not worried about the people who come here to work in the fields, hotels and restaurants.

That's glossing over it. The problem in Wa. state may not be as bad as it is in the south. Here the illegals are taxing our municipal resources. Welfare, food stamps, etc. are freely given to these folks. There is an overwhelming number of them. Tax dollars are being used to educate their kids. They use the hospital emergency rooms as primary care facilities.

Wages in certain industries are being driven down because these illegal workers will take less pay. A $13.50/hr. carpenter job 12 years ago goes for $8.00 now. It's not just fields, restaurants and hotels. It's anywhere there are employers willing to hire under the table. And, I'm willing to bet that people years ago who would have never considered hiring under the table do so now because it is so prevalent here...or hire and not check the SS# given.

IMO, The entire southern border needs to be shut down and only allow those with adequate travel documents to cross back and forth. From that point forward I can agree to looking at increasing legal immigration or guest worker.

As for those who are already here, I think there needs to be a massive crack down with substatial fines and prison for employers who hire illegals. If an illegal is arrested they should be deported, no questions asked.

Your post was a complete non sequitor. If you want to discuss prosecution of criminals on another thread, fine. I've prosecuted over 3,000 felons.

That's pure, steaming horse$hit. No cut.

You don't even care that your practices of hiring below minimum wage tends to make slaves out of Americans, lowering the standard of living for all but your own above you. Your days are indeed numbered.

Slavemaster. I shall not pity you come your final judgement.

By hiding behind 9-11 you are even more despicable. I spit at the thought of what you are. I shall not reply to you again within this forum. There is no lower form of traitor, no lower form of human, than the slavemaster. ESAD.

"Those aren't the business of government?"

SS reform was completely mishandled from the start, in my opinion, turning it into a Quixotic quest, which has been obvious for some time. Terry Shaivo and stem cells do not suffice, in my opinion, as the main focus for our Chief Executive. He is dogging it.

Would you favor a rule making the employer signing a personal guranty that the immigrants he/she hires don't go on welfare or become social services recipients?????

And they should be given freely to native born Americans, is that what you are saying?

As for the schools your NEA dominated govt. school wants as many people in those seats to pad the union coffers.

I don't see you promoting vouchers which would the cut the ingluence of the NEA greatly.

Take my word for it, we're flooded down here.

Uh, my grandparents were "imported" from Europe.

That's pretty telling. You see your grandparents as nothing more than an import. Sad. My grandparent emigrated legally. Did yours jump the border and that is why you cheer them on now?

Thats the thing that sickens me the most about the pro-illegal croud. They want to do everything ass backwards. Set 15million illegals on the path to citizenship now, maybe 20-25 years from now we'll get around to welfare.

How about changing it to "all" employees, not just immigrants.

"The immigrant invasion has degraded the glories of US democracy, and exploited our precious freedoms for fraudulent personal gain."

I do apologize for degrading the glories of US democracy. Wow... My "fraudulent" personal gain here consist of working my butt off, paying taxes, being deeply in debt (ain't that the "American" way?), and striving to achieve the financial independence one day.

"Let us not forget that America is a democracy, governed by a Constitution. and that every American worth his/her salt comes to the aid of their country when it is under attack."

I agree with you above. I served.

"What these foreigners need to do is seek professional help for their self-esteem problems, rather than getting ego gratification by beating up on, and ripping off, Americans."

Where do you get this info??? I am very proud of my heritage AND very proud to be an American. No self-esteem problem here, YOU??? Sorry you are so bitter and insecure.

Youare confusing the issue. The proposal is a willing worker to a willing employee. If the employers are so desparate for these people, why don't they put their money where their lobbying is and sohw how committed they are to these people. They are not, they want these people so that they can't get cheap labor with no language skills who have no say and won't say a word about anything and can be disposed like garbage.

Actually it was a sarcastic remark to Prokopton's that "real American" can't be imported in his reply #133.

I bet you 50% of this board had reletives "imported", and thus aren't "real Americans" to Prokopton.

I have been saying this all along. If President Bush is a "straight shooter," which by and large I believe him to be, then why isn't he being forthcoming about his motives on the immigration issue?

I agree with the President, in that he has done a very poor job in communicating on this issue. Kudos for recognizing the problem.
