When is the Pryor vote? Tonight or tommorow? From what I read of his testimony, I really like this guy (especially the part about the Disney vacation and his recognition of homosexual relations as similar to other forms of sexual deviance)

"As a bonus, the Senate will confirm on Thursday Michigan nominees David McKeague and Richard Griffin, nominated to the 6th Circuit in Cincinnati, said Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn."

Actually, these 2 were the original two that Reid offered in his "compromise" - what they dont tell you is that they were blocked because Sen Levin was upset that his picks under Clinton never made it through... they were not targetted by the Dme caucus to start with.

Rubber meets road here:

"The Senate is anxious to move on to considering energy legislation and spending bills instead of taking up Bush's other appellate nominees including Henry Saad, William Myers, William Haynes and Brett Kavanaugh.

Those nominees were not guaranteed confirmation votes in the centrist agreement, and Democrats are expected to try and block all of them.

Frist said Tuesday he wasn't shirking a fight over those nominations. "As they come out of committee, we're going to bring them to the floor," he said."

The idea that these fine nominees were guaranteed confirmation votes in the 'agreement' and therefore wont/shouldnt be brought up is pure Dem Spin.

Glad to see Frist is showing cohones ... first we get the ones they let go, then we go back to the ones they filibuster...

If I were Rehnquist I wouldn't resign till I was dead 20 minutes.

I'd be on extreme life support still voting against the socialist agenda !

Liberals get to make new rulings, conservatives have to follow the 'stare decisis' of those Liberal rulings.

"Heads I win, tails you lose" ... and Reid expects us to buy it with a straight face.

That would be serving the socialist agenda. The right thing to do is step down while he has a Republican President and Senate.

I'm beginning to think that Frist met with Reid and said, "If you keep up this crap, I've got two words for you . . .

JUSTICE BORK."

The dems can replace him in 2080... bwahahhahaa!
____________________________________________

If they still exist then. Heck replacing Rehnquist now may mean no Dim ever gets a shot to fill that seat.

Which raises the question, what will the follow on party to the Dims be names? Social Dim?

I think it will remain Dems and Reps. Our current system so overwhelmingly favors a 2 party system that I don't see any change happening there, especially now that campaign finances are so regulated and so much of it is govt. payments that go exclusively to the 2 mega-parties.
There will be change WITHIN the existing 2 parties, but there won't be new parties.

TRANSLATION: We kicked their tails in this so-called "deal." We are getting everything we want and gave up nothing but a "promise" that we know they will BREAK, thus freeing us. Which is exactly what I said a couple of weeks ago when everyone here was freaking out.

We have definitely made some progress with the confirmation of Owen, Brown and Pryor. However, I will feel a lot better about this agreement when Haynes and Kavanaugh are voted out of committee and given a vote on the floor of the Senate. The dems have stalled for nearly 4 years on judicial nominations and the impact has been significant. First, we have lost good nominees like Estrada, Kuhl and Pickering. Second, by stalling so long the dems have kept good candidates like Estrada, Owen, Rogers, etc. from being considered for the SCOTUS. If Estrada had been confirmed in 2001, there would be a good chance that he would be a SCOTUS nominee when Rehnquist retires.

I agree our system favors two parties. I also agree the changes will take place within parties, that is why I suggest a name for a follow on party, that is what the Dims become.

Maybe the Dims can change their name to the anti-African-American party or the "We know best for African-Americans Party." That is the one consistent position their party has taken:

1. 1780-1860, Pro-slavery, we know best for African-Americans.

2. 1870-1950, Pro-Jim Crow, we know best for African-Americans.

3.1960-today, Pro-Government Plantantion, we know best for African-Americans.

I was doing the same on a few threads, but you were carrying the water, much as you did during the Election. I'm glad to follow along!

One of these days, you *have* to tell me about your life as a drummer. :)

They won't change their name. A name change right now would be logical. For truth in advertising it should be changed to the "Socialist Party", "Democratic Socialist Party", or "Social Democratic Party". But they will never admit that they are socialists... why should then when they don't have to? They can just continue to pose as a legitimate American political party.

Wanna hear about my flaming drum solo? I stole the concept from a guy in a club band called "Canary." Basically, while our roadie or singer pulled my tympani mallets out of a flammable solution---at first, lighter fluid, but later, other stuff---the other roadies or band members wiped down all my 7-10 cymbals with more ligher fluid.

The trick was, our singer was supposed to SQUEEZE OUT the mallets before handing them to me---but when we opened for the James Gang, he got so excited he forgot! I just hit one cymbal, one time, with one mallet . . . and it looked like the Mekong Delta and "We Were Soldiers!" Flame everywhere. Crowd going crazy (as they sensed a human sacrifice). I hit another cymbal on the other side---Mekong Delta over there, too! Here I am with hair down to my anus, scarves and flammable stuff everywhere, and I'm one spark away from doing a Richard Pryor imitation. Finally I did the fastest roll of my life and literally beat out the flames. The audience seemed a little let down at first . . . they massive cheer.

Good catch. The problem is that "try and block" is what almost everyone says these days. I don't think schools teach grammar anymore.

The other one is, "Joe and myself went to the movie." Or, "He gave it to myself."

Democrats have been arguing that the Republican-controlled Senate has spent too much time on Bush's judicial picks and not enough on the country's other priorities. "We've spent endless hours, endless days, too many weeks debating radical judges and Republican attempts to abuse power," said Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

As if things will change when they start debating the other issues - they'll be "extremist" and "radical" GOP proposals, too, won't they, Senator? This is such a joke.

I think this one was only a two-year battle. Priscilla Owen was a four-year battle.
