Our local TV ran a story the other night about a woman from Boston, I believe who stayed at the very Holiday Inn where Natalee stayed and went to dinner at the resturant from which she disappeared. As she was leaving, several men either forced her into a car or tried to; I don't remember exactly. But I think she was raped and released. The details sounded eerily similar to Natalee's. The restaurant has hired a spokesman from the US and I thought she was very, very defensive, nit-picking at the publicly revealed details about this trip. She didn't do her employers any favors. As I heard her speak, I thought there had to be more than we knew. And I suspect that this is it. It has happened like this there before.

Amy Bradley went missing at Curaçao, not Aruba.

The story says that she went missing in Aruba, and the Navy officer saw her in Curacao.

The posted story misleads, but you might do a little research; Bradley disappeared from her ship nearer to Curacao than Aruba.

It's horrible enough to hear about those, but even more to think that some of the others who are missing may be forced to be prostitutes.

Which is why I would support torture as a last resort to obtain information in this case

After the perps tried to coax her to the same bar and restaurant where Natalee was hunted down ...

Probe the bartenders ... hard

Read below what the Federal Bureau of Investigation has to say about the case:
Amy Bradley was reported missing in the early morning hours of March 24, 1998. She was last seen by family members sitting on the balcony outside their cabin aboard the Rhapsody of the Seas cruise ship. The ship was en route to Curaçao, Antilles at the time Amy was last seen. The ship docked in Curaçao shortly after Amy was discovered missing. Extensive searches on the ship and at sea have produced no signs of Amy's whereabouts. This investigation is ongoing.

I believe Amy's parents said the ship had a stop in Aruba where similar things to Natalee happened....i.e.-ship employees invited Amy to go to Carlos & Mickey's. Amy declined and was with her family when the ship departed Aruba. The ship was underway, when, the next morning at 6am she was discovered missing. Mom said they begged the ship not to lower the gangplank & let anyone disembark while they were still searching for her but it was lowered and they do not know what happened to her.

Maybe there should be a co-abductor charge like the co-conspirator term?

As to torture....some things need to happen to get them to talk. Truth serum, sleep deprivation, whatever. Just do it and maybe a miracle will happen and both girls will be found alive.

I empathize with what the the Holloway family must be going through, but is there any doubt that the main reason this story leads on every news channel is that this young woman is somewhat photogenic? Lots of people disappear, but only a few get this kind of news coverage.

You know, I just don't understand the point of this observation. What, exactly, do you recommend?

I agree with you that "lots of people disappear". One positive aspect of picking a case like the instant one and publicizing it widely, public awareness can be raised to the dangers of certain activities and places thereby, perhaps, helping to prevent other cases.

Obviously all "missing persons" cases cannot be given air time, but to take one now and then to educate is a good thing.

I'm thinking the same thing. A lot of us associate "white slavery" with the 1920's & 30s ala Thouroughly Modern Milly, not with current time. But, we keep hearing the horror stories of foriegn women (and children!) being lured into the sex trades so why do we think this couldn't happen to us?

Russian women are lured into the American white slavery trade on a regular basis. There are many cases of their being lured to Israel and other Middle Eastern countries.

What do Natalee Holloway, Elizabeth Smart, and Laci Peterson have in common?

1. Their pictures looked better on TV than the images of many other people who have disappeared.
2. The news media spent a disproportionate amount of time covering them, rarely mentioning the many other people who disappear in similar circumstances, and preempting other news stories with less tabloid appeal.

In 2002 four college students disappeared in Minnesota and Wisconsin in a short period. This story did not receive anything like the amount of coverage that Holloway has already received. If one American goes missing in Aruba, does that really justify having correspondents from every news channel travelling to that island to provide constant updates?

Of course the answer is that it is justifiable in terms of ratings for these channels. That's what it's all about I guess. I suppose the best that can be hoped for is that the general story of people who disappear, are kidnapped, or murdered will be covered a little more along with these particular cases that the media detemines to be more exciting and titillating.

It's horrible wherever it happens and how do you think it can be stopped?
Or how could the girls be rescued? The men who would frequent brothels wouldn't be likely to come to their aid.

yes......that's true....its not my rule and I don't like it, but that's just the way things are.....period....

besides, if we can prevent one more kidnapping/probable rape and murder by being so gun-ho on such cases, then its not all bad......

I prefer this to MJ anyday.....I turn the channel whenever they talk about him...

So do I; I have no interest in listening endlessly about homosexual pedophiles. My only interest is that homosexual pedophiles be taken off the street permanently. That goes for heterosexual pedophiles as well, of course.

Oh, oh weren't we told the LAST crime was in 1996 and a rape? The truth trickles out ... .

Did the victim go overboard on the ship?
