The Good Stuff for 8 June, 2005

The Word
"Many are asking, 'Who can show us any good?' Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD."--Psalm 4:6

The Quote
"Those who want to take our money and gain power over us have discovered the magic formula: Get us envious or angry at others and we will surrender, in installments, not only our money but our freedom. The most successful dictators of the 20th century -- Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Mao -- all used this formula and now class warfare politicians here are doing the same." --Thomas Sowell

The Joke
A sandwich walks into a bar. The bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve food in here."

The Hero--Today’s Medal of Honor Recipient

ALCHESAY

Alchesay, as photographed by Carl Moon, the famous
photographer specializing in Native American portraits.

Rank and organization: Sergeant, Indian Scouts
Place and date: Winter of 1872-73
Entered service at: Camp Verde, Arizona
Born: 1853, Arizona Territory
Date of issue: 12 April 1875
Citation: Gallant conduct during campaigns and engagements with Apaches.

Alchesay was a Chief of the White Mountain Apache of Eastern Arizona. After he helped convince Geronimo to surrender, the two chiefs remained close friends for life. After his military adventures, he settled down in Arizona and "became a prominent cattleman and model citizen." (Source: Carlmoon.com website.)

Alchesay in later years. He passed away in 1928.
