Per Fox News Alert...
That was actually a remake of a WWII-era movie with Jack Benny.
I made a reference to The Graduate just a day or so ago on FR, and felt obliged to explain that it was a movie.
But The Miracle Worker---only an illiterate would be unaware of that. As for her performance in it, I still get goosebumps just thinking about the climactic scene with Patty Duke.
Well done, Anne Bancroft, and RIP.
Her real name was Anna Maria Italiano
"To be or not to be . . . "
The Turning Point and especially that scene was AMAZING!!
Good call...
PS... It's Mikhail Baryshnikov
"84 Charing Cross Road"
GREAT MOVIE!!!
What a love story....
She was a lovely lady, and will be missed. But look at that promo with her and Dustin Hoffman. In _The Graduate_, older woman seduces young college grad. Old enough to be the mother of the girl he runs off with in the end.
But at the time that picture was taken, she was 35, and Hoffman was 30 or 31. Hmmm.... Do the math. How many actresses have to be made up to look _older_ than they really are? A scant few, I'd say.
She was also very convincing as Golda Meir in "Golda." Soooo talented.
She was so gorgeous. I love that look - dark sleek hair with a single swath of blond in the front.
Didn't remember that one but I see it had a pretty good cast.

Again, from allmovie:
Whenever Mel Brooks wanted to get a rise out of wife Anne Bancroft during their joint talk-show appearances of the 1970s, Brooks would bring up the subject of Gorilla at Large. Easily the low point of Ms. Bancroft's movie career, the film is good for a few chuckles if one's in the proper mood. The story is set in an amusement park, where the star attractions include trapeze artist Cameron Mitchell and a huge, vicious gorilla. When a series of murders take place, Mitchell is one of the prime suspects; another is Bancroft's husband Raymond Burr, who owns the big ape. The revelation of the actual killer is mildly surprising, not to mention thoroughly unbelievable. Gorilla at Large was filmed in 3D, resulting in a reasonably exciting "thrill" sequence atop a roller coaster. Hal Erickson
Oh! We were just talking about that last week at the beach; the girls had never seen it!
When she rode that girder to the top of that building, we dang near died!
Prayers for Anne and her family.
Starred Sandra Bullock too. I too, like that movie.
Wasn't that Ingrid Bergman?
A hidden gem. Noticed on later post she wrote and directed, some kinda talent.
Sorry ... Bancroft portrayed her on Broadway.
Would you look at this! 120 posts and all of them are adoring!
