GOP candidate staffers blitz New Jersey voters to gain precious primary vote

TRENTON – Campaign workers are spending the final hours before Tuesday’s primary working the phones and sending out e-mails in an effort to gain precious votes.

Those working for Republican candidates Doug Forrester and Bret Schundler say votes will be critical based on recent poll numbers. According to the latest Quinnipiac poll, Forrester holds 35 percent of the vote with Schundler coming on strong at 33 percent. Campaign staffers know their voter outreach blitz could make the difference for their candidate.

Despite reminders from campaign staffers, political experts say turnout at primaries is usually low. Out of 850,000 registered voters, analysts expect approximately 300,000 to cast their vote Tuesday.

No matter who wins tomorrow, I'll still like your screen name.

Inspired by John Murphy... "Corzine bought a US senate seat for 63 million, now hes bored and wants to buy the Governorship"

I worked on Murphy's campaign. He is a good guy and would love to see him in Trenton.

Too bad he didn't have enough money. Even Lonegan is running commercials tonight on WABC radio.

Murphy and Lonegan might be good conservatives, but they won't win the primary tomorrow. I think NJ conservatives need to vote for Bret Schundler tomorrow in order to stop Forrester from buying the gubernatorial nomination.

It's too bad that NJ does not have a run-off in primaries. If it did, Murphy and Lonegan supporters could vote for their candidate without fear of it helping a RINOish candidate win---such votes would contribute to the denominator and help hold Forrester under 50%.

Doug Forrester may be a Rino, but he's drooling at the chance to go after Corzine.

He is going to be the first guy to really get in hard and dirty with Corzine, I've been waiting for somone to really rip on him and go after him.

Make no mistake, I am not a Doug Forrester fan, but I do hate Corzine and if Corzine is going to win, it may as well be exspensive and dirty and brutal.

Forrester has no shot against Corzine. We've clearly seen that Forrester likes to dish it out but is totally unable to take it himself (the debate last night, for one), and the guy's policies are so similar to Corzine's its not even funny.

Forrester likes to play the "VOTE FOR ME, I'M A BUSINESSMAN!!!" card all the time, but that is really useless against Corzine, because he's the same thing. They're both rich businessmen. Forrester really wouldn't have any material to hit Corzine with, because he'd be hitting himself. Given the benefit of the doubt, this state will just vote for the Democratic rich businessman in such a situation.

Schundler on the other hand is like a polar opposite to Corzine. That's the kind of difference we need. We need to differentiate ourselves from Corzine as much as possible, and play on the Democratic Party's corruption in this state.

Yeah, I am surprised this thread is not more pro-Schundler! He's a terrific candidate and the only reason he didn't do better last time is his party completely screwed him. I would love to see him run again.

I like all of the five. Any of them but Forrester or Schundler.

And if God smiles on us, and any of the five get in, I hope that the new Governor will appoint the other 4 candidates to a position on the team.

If Lonegan or Murphy win; I hope they will appoint the other candidates to office (EXCLUDING Schundler and Forrester). I like all 5 of the underdogs. They all could work as a team in cleaning up Trenton.

Schundler's links to radical Muslim groups totally disqualifies him from my support. He is buddies with the worst elements of that crowd, who we bash day in and out here on FR. Longean is a better choice, but Forrester is the only real choice to win, because Lonegan lacks sufficient cash.

Actually, they are birds of a feather when it comes to being public stooges for radical Muslim groups. No to both.

I hope you're right, but Forrester certainly didn't show any such fighting spirit when he let that cadaver Lautenberg bulldoze over him.

Could you please give us some evidence of this? It seems odd that Schundler's links to al Qaeda-type groups have gone unnoticed until now, and that someone who worked in Israel for years is actually a Muslim sympathizer.

Lonegan's problem isn't that he doesn't have the cash for the general election---if he won the primary, he'd be able to raise it in a hurry. Lonegan's problem is that he's at between 5%-8% in every poll, and thus has no chance of winning the primary. Conservatives need to decide whether they want Forrester or Schundler to win; if they want a pro-abortion moderate such as Forrester, they can vote for him or for the conservatives Lonegan or Murphy and Schundler will not be able to beat Forrester. But if they want a conservative to win, they need to vote for Schundler, the one conservative who can win today's primary.

I grow increasingly irritated with all of these baseless accusations of Schundler and "terrorist groups."

I really want to know which candidate started these disgusting rumors. It's either Forrester or Lonegan- only those two would lack enough class to throw around something so ridiculous.

Here's one, poorly formatted, cannot find the PDF but will look.

There are probably thousands of Republican politicians who have received help from Grover Norquist at one time or another, and that does not make them Islamist sympathizers. As for the CAIR stuff, I'd need to read more about it, but it does appear to be more troubling (IF that website is telling the truth, which is not necessarily so given its alarmist report on Schundler having ties to Norquist).

I must reiterate that this is all very surprising to me given Schundler's close relationship of many years with the State of Israel (in fact, when I first read about Schundler, I assumed he was Jewish because of his many ties to Israel).
