Pastry hit [neo]conservative commentator at Earlham College.

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) -- An Earlham College student faces a possible trial next month on criminal charges for throwing a pie at [neo]conservative commentator William Kristol as he gave a campus speech.

A pretrial hearing was held Thursday for Josh Medlin, 21, who has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge.

Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard and former chief of staff to Vice President Dan Quayle, was splattered by the pie during a March 29 speech about U.S. foreign policy.

Members of the audience jeered, then applauded as Kristol wiped the pie from his face and continued his speech at the private Quaker college.

Medlin, a religion major from Lynn, has said he threw the pie as a protest of "superficial dialogue with no real chance for debate." He was suspended from the school.

Pie-throwing adds depth to the dialogue? Hypocritical loser.

Earlham is one of those Quaker peace studies kinds of schools. Typical of them, I guess.

Earlham is Quaker. But to peace studies/religion people, it's got to be a liberal, feel-good, let anything go kind of religion. Not my cuppa tea, for sure.

"A July 1 trial date was set for Medlin....Medlin could face a sentence of up to 180 days in jail if convicted of the charge."

Unless Judge RedRover shows up. He's in a hanging mood.

Is his religious beliefs somehow important in his dissent against Kristol?

The author of the article apparently thought it was important enough to include in the article. I just wondered what it was since it was included as a piece of information offered by the author.

Question - how does one earn a living with a degree in religious studies?

Answer - ... you want fries with that?

The next time a conservative speaker gets a pie aimed at him/her I hope they respond with overwhelming force.

Assault and battery doesn't seem very pacifistic to me. Would smack of hypocrisy, in fact.

How does one walk into an auditorium with a concealed pie? By the way, did the student have a license to carry a concealed pie?

And the kid was a religion major? Nice going', Josh.

What a putz.

Bill Kristol is a signer of the Plan for a New American Century, and that's one definition of neo-con.

What is "neo" about Kristol's conservatism? I'm tired of that label being attached to any conservative that happens to be Jewish.

The injection by w6ai5q37b of "neo" into the piece whereever "conservative" appeared added nothing and was just plain silly.

Exactly...I don't think he should go to jail for throwing a pie...as long as those that pummel the bozo into a bloody pulp don't go to either.

Next convention there could be a sign, which states:

"Feel Free to Throw a pie and express your disdain and lack of understanding of Free Speach, but beware the crowd has the right to show their disdain for you with thier fist foot, and chair."

I didn't think Islam, because if it was, the newspaper would have hidden that fact.

I think pie-throwing is a great American tradition.

And why is that?

I was referring to the leftist wacko who threw that pie at Kristol, and what religion that leftist practices.
