Pastry hit [neo]conservative commentator at Earlham College.
RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) -- An Earlham College student faces a possible trial next month on criminal charges for throwing a pie at [neo]conservative commentator William Kristol as he gave a campus speech.
A pretrial hearing was held Thursday for Josh Medlin, 21, who has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge.
Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard and former chief of staff to Vice President Dan Quayle, was splattered by the pie during a March 29 speech about U.S. foreign policy.
Members of the audience jeered, then applauded as Kristol wiped the pie from his face and continued his speech at the private Quaker college.
Medlin, a religion major from Lynn, has said he threw the pie as a protest of "superficial dialogue with no real chance for debate." He was suspended from the school.

He was kicked out of school. That's definetly proper punishment for this. Did the same happen to Ann Coulters attackers?

Medlin, a religion major from Lynn, has said he threw the pie as a protest of "superficial dialogue with no real chance for debate." I wonder what religion he follows.

Why did you add Neocon into the headline?

"A religion major?"
I think Quakers are pacifist aren't they? Maybe it had something to do with that.

The AP just had to put neoconservative in there to help justify it no doubt....

Josh Medlin, 21, who has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge. Hmmm, any witnesses or video? Throw the book at him for tying up the courts.

Why did you add Neocon into the headline? Super-Paleo, perhaps? So conservative as to look down on others? Editorializing the title. That's why we have so many repeat posts.

Is his religious beliefs somehow important in his dissent against Kristol? I wouldn't agree with much of what Kristol states, especially on domestic policies, not to mention foreign policy

"has said he threw the pie as a protest of "superficial dialogue with no real chance for debate." And then pleads not guilty?
Well, which lie is it, dude? How's that for real debate?

The article does not use the term "neocon" or "neoconservative" at all. The poster added these.

I second that. Why did you alter the headline? Don't alter headlines. Altering headlines makes it tougher to find articles via FR's search engine.

I think pie-throwing is a great American tradition.
To: jdm
My problem is more that it's an inaccurate alteration. What is "neo" about Kristol's conservatism? I'm tired of that label being attached to any conservative that happens to be Jewish.
