GRAND CHUTE, Wis. -- This is my AFC prediction column, and you're probably wondering: What is that weird dateline doing on the AFC prediction column? Well, I came to Wisconsin over the weekend to take the temperature of Brett Favre and gauge his readiness for a 14th season in Green Bay, so it just happens to be where I am right now.
Favre interlude: The Packers QB holds an annual benefit softball game in this little suburb of Appleton, Wis., a 30-minute drive from Lambeau Field. He does it here because this is where the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League Class A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, play in a nice little venue called Fox Cities Stadium.
Favre looked good. Said he weighs 224 pounds and just finished a five-week, five-day-a-week workout regimen with former Notre Dame strength and conditioning man Ken Kroener down in Mississippi. The Packers paid for the training because they think Favre needs to be in better condition to withstand the rigors of an NFL season than he was last year. Which Favre, basically, confirmed. "People made a big deal of this," he told me, sitting at a locker in the Timber Rattlers' spartan clubhouse, "but I do feel better. This time last year, I hadn't really done anything."
Favre's conditioning program included stretching, body-weight lunges. . .

Yeah, the Jets just had our number last year and they made some outstanding defensive plays in the playoff game. But that was last year and this year SD will make some offensive adjustments to beat the Jets. Chargers' pass rush should be much stronger with the addition of Merriman and more experience rushing from the 3-4 alignment. Pennington had better get rid of it quickly next time he's in San Diego.
Yeah but they used to run plays with both of them on the field.
Maybe. Boldin and Fitzgerald are great young targets for Warner and drafting insurance behind Marcel Shipp was a great thing to do.
Now for my Super Bowl pick:
Indy 31, Philly 21
we'll know soon enough.
So if Brees has anywhere near the type of season he had last year what do you hope the Chargers can get for trading Rivers?
Maddox and Ben will take turns sitting in the chair.
ROFL, sorry about that. It was just for demonstration purposes only.
interesting. King is an idiot. He predicted the score to be 19-6. I can cound on three fingers the number of games I have seen that have ended with a score of 19. And I've seen alot of games.
They struggled last year at home against the Ravens defense. We'll see how they do in Baltimore on the Sunday night opener.
I don't think they'll go 15-1 again but I think Big Ben is there to stay.
I see them taking a step forward. Roethlisberger will know the playbook better. They still have a fantastic defense, good running backs, a pass catching TE for once, and good recievers.
Hackett Gone. Heimerdinger in. Moss gone, Coles Back. The Abominable Stonehands Becht Gone, Jolley in.
SD better be bringing back Ernie Ladd and Earl Faison.
Absolutely. He loves being underestimated. It's what motivates him. Gawd, I love the Pats. Can't wait for football season.
16-0?!! Or do you just mean Ben will be a better quarterback.
There are going to be lots of great games this year. Whoever picked the schedule did a great job. The top three are Indy-NE, Indy-Pitt, Pitt-NE, the next tier is NE-Oakland, Philly-Atlants, etc.
I think he'd love to be the first coach to win three SB's in a row.
not perfect, I don't believe that will ever happen, but Ben will be better. I'll say around 13-3, or 12-4, perhaps 14-2, not 15-1 again, that was a season to remember.
I was actually dissapointed they picked the Pats to open up against Oakland. I thought SD or the Jets would have been better.
who wouldn't?
I hope KIng hasn't jinxed the Pats. THe talent on the roster will be stronger than what they had in the playoff's last year. The new DC, Mangini has been with Bellichick, for 10 years and put the secondary toghter last year after Poole and were injured.
Can't wait for camp to begin.
