Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas (BAMC) recently. This is where soldiers, especially burn victims, come to be hospitalized. The Center has buildings called Fisher Houses, which are hotels where soldiers' families can stay. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but they are full most of the time. Denzel made "a substantial donation" to the Center's work.
Question: why do Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Sean Penn, and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything American tune and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper -- except the base newspaper in San Antoni
Good for him. BUMP
I have a lot of respect for Denzel Washington.
Halle Berry accepted her Oscar earlier that same night abd basically said she didn't deserve it, but was being given the award because of all these other actresses that didn't get one. It was a pathetic display, especially when you consider at that moment, she chose to identify more with the black father who beat and deserted her and her mom than her white mother who struggled to raise her all on her own.
Denzel (with the exception of the little joke he made when he arrived on stage, a spur of the moment thing I'm sure), made hardly a reference to his race and accepted his Oscar on the basis that he did indeed deserve it (and he did). Denzel is an amazing actor and at times can be an extremely serious man. He stared Hollywood in the fact that night and basically said, you gave me this because I deserved it, not because I'm black. It was the kind of look that had Hollywood been patronizing him, they would have buckled under from that powerful stare.
He's my favorite actor but he's so much more. Too bad there aren't more like him in Hollywood.
I think it's important to notice a Hollywood elite actually acting like a mensch.
I think we need to verify this "donation" before going any further with this. Can someone verify that he gave money?
Denzel Washington made good o his promise

Densel has a son in Bagdad. I am sure the MSM wouldn't want the public to know that. Mr. Washington is a proud American. This is one guy who doesn't lead with race....he knows hard work and the right attitude works.
I've done some searches on FR and there are other accounts on this site and news sources that show a dignified behavior pattern on the part of D. Washington. I don't think there is anyone who despises celebrities more than I, and I am impressed.
That is highly decent of Mr. Washington. You can bet our wounded troops appreciate his visit very much.
There will always be a US military. There will always be people with the heart and sense to know how important the military is. Liberal hatred for the military in the US is so far institutionalized that anyone who supports the military is himself/herself a singular individual, even though that is something which should be natural to all Americans.
Denzel apparently asked how much it cost to build one of the units at the facility. When he was told the amount, Denzel pulled out his checkbook and wrote the check for that amount on the spot.
Denzel is being the class act that he is. I first respected him when he refused to do love scenes in his films years ago. His wife is a lovely woman who I saw interviewed on television not long ago. She said she gladly cut-back on her singing career to have their first son.
Maybe not in real life, but he always seems to have roles acting the part of an angry racial. That being so, I haven't viewed a complete work he's done since St.Elsewhere.
It may be most of his rolls are angry, but it is the story that sells if written properly. I do not belive Denzel is angry about anything, but working to have a career to be proud of. Most of his pictures I have seen are excellent...and full of action. As they say....that sells!
Angry, mouthy, ethnic portrayals don't 'work' for me.
..he always seems to have roles acting the part of an angry racial..
Take a look at Man on Fire.
I'd have given him an Oscar for that role. His character had conflicts, but not racial. He is shown with a white old friend, and his main (key) connection is to a blond little girl to whom he is bodyguard.
I don't blame an actor for the writing which portrays a character in a movie. Densel was really good in "Man On Fire". The man he characterizes is angry and ready to kill anyone associated with the crime. Densel is one actor that can do many things on film. He shows love, action, humor and anger....all on film and well done. The camera does love him.
