John Kerry Reportedly To Present "Downing Street Memo" To Congress

June 5, 2005 7:36 a.m. EST

Douglas Maher - All Headline News Staff Reporter

Washington,D.C. (AHN)- After remaining almost silent since losing the 2004 election by thirty four electoral votes, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts is reportedly planning to to present Congress with The Downing Street Memo, reported last month by the London Times.

The memo purports to include minutes from a July 2002 meeting with Tony Blair, in which Blair allegedly said that President Bush's administration "fixed" intelligence on Iraq in order to justify the Iraqi war.

The Downing Street Memo is a leaked Top Secret document that details the minutes of a 2002 meeting between top-level British and American government officials.

The memo states that George Bush "was determined" to attack Iraq long before going to Congress with the matter, and that "the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

Rumblings across Washington and the Internet claim this is a step from Democrats towards impeachment of President Bush.

Fellow Democrat Rep. John Conyers of Michigan has issued a statement on the U.S. House of Representatives stating that he is seeking information regarding the meeting minutes.

"I am seeking information regarding the charges made in the so-called “Downing Street Minutes” that there was a secret agreement between the U.S. and the U..K to invade Iraq by the summer of 2002, well before the president sought congressional authority." Conyers said.

"Please provide us with any information or leads you might have regarding such a secret pre-war deal, or other efforts to manipulate intelligence or provoke a response to justify war. We will treat any information provided on this site as confidential. Thank you for your assistance in this important matter."

However, All Headline News has re-discovered that a bill signed by then President Clinton named "The Iraqi Liberation Act of 1998" gave President Bush all of the legal recourse necessary for the war.

Stating directly from the bill: "Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 - Declares that it should be the policy of the United States to seek to remove the Saddam Hussein regime from power in Iraq and to replace it with a democratic government. "

The H.R. 4655 law was signed into effect October 31,1998.

Republicans plan to issue a response to Senator Kerry by using his own words against him, a tactic used in the 2004 Election. Where Sen. Kerry was quoted as saying the war was justified and Saddam Hussein needed to be removed.

This was NOT John Kerry .. this was Bob Kerrey - the guy on the 9/11 commission who made such an ass of himself.

Good theory but don't we have to wait to see how he manages to get on both sides of the issue? He's still on both sides of his form 180 release---says he signed it but it ain't apparently released.

Hey! Been gone for a few days...looks like I missed alot.

CINO's have NO PLACE anywhere. It has become a 'fashionable' title, of sorts, and quite frankly, it is a total disgust to me.

Reading this thread has made me dig very deep into my belief system, and think about what our future REALLY holds if we, the TRUE Conservatives do not do something soon. The Liberals are on the march, the MSM is right behind them, and we must find a viable candidiate for 2008 if we want to keep our position - which right now is shakey, I know.

We all need to dig deep and remember WHY we chose to be who we are. Was it because of our Religious beliefs? Was it due to a moral debate? Was it Family History and tradition that has led us here - or something deep within our psyche that lets us know who we are and want this country truly needs?

The 2004 Election spoke volumes - and the Democrats did not like what they heard. They believe the only way to take the country back is by putting the FIRST WOMAN in the Oval Office.

Women have the ability to appeal to ALL levels of Demographics. We can sympathize with the single moms, empathize with the Veterans, and tug at the heart strings of all groups when we begin to talk about our children and what we want them to have when they grow up. Women are very good at bringing emotions into any debate, but being strong enough to stand their ground. Even the Evangelicals who came out to vote in droves last time (me being one of them) could be swayed by a 'mother' figure with compassion and loyalty (did she not stay with her husband AFTER he broke their vows of marriage? It takes a STRONG woman to do that).

However, we, as TRUE Conservative Republicans, must find a viable candidate who can warm the hearts of America like George W. did. It is not an impossible feat - just gonna take some work. Perhaps a good Woman on the Conservative side would be in order?

However, the ONE thing we CANNOT do - is become divided within our own party. "A house divided will not stand". And that is true.

We as FReepers, have to stand stronger than we ever have - and being new to this forum, but a Conservative all my life - I think I am qualified to make this statement. I have read archives, I have read many threads of breaking news, I know FReepers are responsible for getting the truth out there. We just cannot quit at this point, and indeed must grow stronger. Whomever our party puts into the Candidacy for President, we must present as a UNITED FRONT. Something the MSM, the leftwings goofballs, and the Michael Moore's of this world CANNOT break through.

And, we MUST stand strong against the CINO's, who do not have our best interest at heart, only their own agenda to push.

Tonkin, I am so proud to read the words you have written. I know your heart, and I know how deeply you care. Keep it up.We WILL get there, and our country, our daily lives, and the Freedom of our children will forever be guaranteed.

Whatever we must do - NOW is the time to do it! JK

Man PLEASE PLEASE DEMOCRATS dont back down start the impeachment !

I really really want to see them go ahead.

I want to see Barbara Boxer and John Kerry and John Edwards and Ted Kennedy and all the other democrats TRY to bring this argument forward.

These are the SAME people who voted to let CLINTON bomb Serbia when Clintons Impeachment was in full swing.

Serbia who didnt attack the US, who didnt have WMDs, who was only a "evil Dictator" tormenting his people. Hell Milosovic didnt even fire on US aircraft or invade his neighbors ! There also was NO UN resolution allowing the USE OF FORCE !

And now they want to attack Bush ?

BRING IT ON ! We can hit them all back. They started a war for the SOLE reason of SAVING Bill Clintons BUTT !

I want to see BOxer and Kerry and the other SQUIRM when they get hit with the fact they started an Illegal war to protect Bill clinton !

PLEASE DO IT ! I want to see them gone. The US was attacked on 911 and sadaam was a threat. Milosovic NEVER attacked the US and these BOZOS went all out to lead the US into war all to prevent impeachment !

They dont have a leg to stand on. THEY started a war to give a DEMOCRATIC president political cover. They put US service personel in harms way for the sole benefit of Bill Clinton keeping his office.

Which is a more impeachable offense ?

Well when it comes to just about everything, Kerry is a liar, like most far-left liberals. Lying is a life essential to protect and preserve their false image and corruption.

"So I guess Kerry is going to get really fat, grow a beard and start yelling in a gravelly voice. When Hillary! loses in 2008, I'm sure she'll do the same"

Hillary with a beard. Now that's a great visual.

Talking about this on Brit's panel, even CECE doesn't think this is much.

Very true--and I would think the Swifties---led by a very good lawyer, O'Neill should be able to get them, once Kerry sends in his #180---

and I hope O'Neill and the Swifties are paying attention and that they realize that this idiot STILL is planning on running for POTUS in 2008--

I think a pre-emptive strike is called for!

I'm glad you saw the panel on Brit's show also---wasn't it funny that the one person that seemed the most "concerned" about the wording in the memo, was Brit himself...

Even Mort, like Cece, was pretty unimpressed about the significance of it--

The only thing I can think of, about why Brit seemed skeptical, is because he is seeing the writing on the wall, re: impeachment hearings...

Only, it is very interesting that the Senator huffing and puffing about this, couldn't even show up in the Senate today!

The true measure of a man is how he accepts defeat. Compare Gore and Kerry to Richard Nixon, who conceded defeat honorably for the sake of America though the Daley Machine demonstrably stole the election for Kennedy.
