Kerry Touts Bush Impeachment Memo

Failed presidential candidate John Kerry said Thursday that he intends to confront Congress with a document touted by critics of President Bush as evidence that he committed impeachable crimes by falsifying evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

"When I go back [to Washington] on Monday, I am going to raise the issue," Kerry said, referring to the Downing Street Memo in an interview with Massachusetts' Standard Times newspaper.

"I think it's a stunning, unbelievably simple and understandable statement of the truth and a profoundly important document that raises stunning issues here at home," the top Democrat added.

The Downing Street Memo, first reported on May 1 by the London Times, was drafted by a Matthew Rycroft, a foreign policy aide to Prime Minister Tony Blair. It is said to be minutes of a July 2002 meeting where Blair allegedly admitted that the Bush administration "fixed" Iraq intelligence to manufacture a rationale for war.

Citing the Downing Street Memo, former presidential candidate Ralph Nader called for an impeachment investigation on Tuesday in an op-ed piece published by the Boston Globe.

"It is time for Congress to investigate the illegal Iraq war as we move toward the third year of the endless quagmire that many security experts believe jeopardizes US safety by recruiting and training more terrorists," wrote Nader with co-author Kevin Zeese. "A Resolution of Impeachment would be a first step."

The British memo, however, contains no quotes from either Bush or Blair, and is notably slim on evidence implicating Bush in a WMD cover-up.

Though largely ignored in the U.S. outside of rabid anti-Bush Web sites like MichaelMoore.com, the Downing Street Memo won Sen. Kerry's endorsement in the Standard Times interview: "It's amazing to me," the top Democrat said, "the way it escaped major media discussion. It's not being missed on the Internet, I can tell you that."

I do believe Kerry was all for bridging the partisan divide... maybe his concession speech will offer some insight. Ahh, here it is:

...But in an American election, there are no losers, because whether or not our candidates are successful, the next morning we all wake up as Americans. And that -- that is the greatest privilege and the most remarkable good fortune that can come to us on earth. With that gift also comes obligation. We are required now to work together for the good of our country. In the days ahead, we must find common cause. We must join in common effort without remorse or recrimination, without anger or rancor. America is in need of unity and longing for a larger measure of compassion. I hope President Bush will advance those values in the coming years. I pledge to do my part to try to bridge the partisan divide. I know this is a difficult time for my supporters, but I ask them, all of you, to join me in doing that.

-John Kerry, Nov. 3, 2004.

Maybe he flipflopped. The botox must have made it to his brain.

Kerry is truly a follower. This movement is gaining momentum in the liberal community, and there he is acting like it was his idea. How pathetic.

"The British memo, however, contains no quotes from either Bush or Blair, and is notably slim on evidence implicating Bush in a WMD cover-up." Kerry and his goons couldn't steal the election so now they intend to try and assassinate the nation that voted for his opponent. So what's new in democrap land? They willingly destroy that which they cannot rule.

The Dummies have been obsessing on the idea of The Story--that is, they need a simple, easy-to-grasp "storyline" with which they can hang an impeachment on. Biden, Kerry, Dean and others have talked about this in regards to the last election, the Dems didn't have " a story" for the American people (I guess rich kid who spends most of the Vietnam War on a ship, focuses on the four months he spent in country, and then comes home for a decades-long political career in which he accomplishes absolutely nothing of distinction didn't work so well).

So look for them to find a "moderate" Democrat to start giving interviews saying there's NO way he's looking to impeach, but that this memo "raises questions that all patriotic Americans would like answered" and call for investigation. Then a "moderate" Republican--McCain--will say we should look into this to "clear the President's good name" or something.

I love the way this article starts out. :^)

Also a good clue that the article wasn't written by someone from AP or Reuters, lol.

A scary thing about Kerry is that there is a democrat senator with an even lower acu rating as Kerry who the media is trying make us believe is a centrist.

Kerry's lifetime ACU rating is 5, Hillary's ACU rating last year was a 0 yet the media says she is moving to the middle what a load of bs.

Kerry might read something in MAD magazine and pounce on it. What a maroon - election loser leading an impeachment proceding on the guy who beat him. That's class, Kerry - real class.

Or the NYT, or Newsweek, Time, the Boston Globe, the LA Times, the WaPo, NPR, ABC, CBS, NBC, or a couple of dozen other political hack hit rags.

Hell, if it was CBS, we would already know how the memo came into being...

Besides being a sore loser, Comrade Kerry wants to run again for President IMHO. So he is trying to court the loony Left by pushing the memo in Congress. A footnote to my comment is that Comrade Kerry and the Left does want to impeach President Bush with a religious zeal. They would sacrifice this country to accomplish this. An example would be the story about the Koran being “Desecrated” by American soldiers. I pray for the day when President Bush brings back the Sedition act of 1918.

The Espionage Act of 1917 was amended by Congress the following year to not only target those who interfered with the draft, but also those individuals who publicly criticized the government — including negative comments about the flag, military or Constitution.
The revised law provided in part:
SECTION 3. Whoever, when the United States is at war, shall willfully make or convey false reports or false statements with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the military or naval forces of the United States, or to promote the success of its enemies, or shall willfully make or convey false reports, or false statements, ...or incite insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty, in the military or naval forces of the United States, or shall willfully obstruct ...the recruiting or enlistment service of the United States, or ...shall willfully utter, print, write, or publish any disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language about the form of government of the United States, or the Constitution of the United States, or the military or naval forces of the United States ...or shall willfully display the flag of any foreign enemy, or shall willfully ...urge, incite, or advocate any curtailment of production ...or advocate, teach, defend, or suggest the doing of any of the acts or things in this section enumerated and whoever shall by word or act support or favor the cause of any country with which the United States is at war or by word or act oppose the cause of the United States therein, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than 20 years, or both....
United States, Statutes at Large, Washington, D.C., 1918, Vol. XL, p. 553 and following.
More than 2,000 prosecutions occurred under the original and amended Espionage Act, the most famous of which was that of Socialist spokesman and draft opponent, Eugene V. Debs, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Both the Espionage Act and the Sedition Act were repealed in 1921.
