Congressional call
for troops on border
Iowa rep says he will introduce bill in weeks
© 2005 WorldNetDaily.com
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, called today for deploying the military to seal the borders against illegal immigration and stiff new financial penalties for employers who hire aliens.
"The destiny of America is going to be shaped a lot by immigration policy," said King, who said he will introduce legislation "in the next several weeks."
King said the measure he's pushing would put in place severe financial penalties for companies hiring illegal workers, ending the companies' ability to take deductions on wages and benefits for those workers.
"That will change the dynamic of this," said King. "That will slow the growth in this job magnet that's driving our illegal immigration."
King spoke during a taping of Iowa Public Television's "Iowa Press" program airing later this weekend.
"Immigration is the big sleeping issue that seems to be the subject that no one wanted to touch in the last presidential campaign, the subject that these presidential candidates don't want to touch, but it's something that Iowans and Americans want to have a national debate on," said King.
His bill, he said, would give "safe harbor" to companies that use Internet-based tracking systems to verify that workers are in the country legally.
"We need healthy immigration," said King. "We should go around the world and recruit the best people we can get. We just simply can't be the relief valve for all the poverty in the world."King said it would be a relatively simple task to seal the border by deploying military units for that task.
"Yes we can control the border, we can put more people on the border," said King. "Deploy our military to the border. That's great terrain to train to go to Iraq. You need to keep an army busy. We have National Guard people down there now, we can just put more there."
That translates that 'We The People' will pay more.
Try to buy a toy that is not made in China.
Yes we are short of troops but all thats really need are a few Huey gunships and a clear message.
I'm talking about deterrence here folks.

"Unfortunately, there are not enough troops to go around. Moreover, this type of duty would dull a unit's tactical combat skills."
Depends, ...... designating illegal border crossing as an attack on the US, then picking off the vermin as they try to get in will make good target practice.
With all due respect -- that's baloney.
It's nothing but a canard by the open border and pro illegal crowd and has been factually disproved by many, including blow hard in chief, Bill O'Reilly.
For one it would be the NG mainly guarding the borders, and who are under the direct control of the Governors of their states. They could call them up 'in a heart beat'. And again, it's been proved that there's more than enough NG units to do the job.
As to dulling UA Army regulars combat skills, that's quite a leap of logic. If the deserts of AZ, NM & Texas don't mirror the Middle East, what does? But as to dulling a unit how's this:
in 'the old days', Ft Hood TEXAS was home to the 3rd Armored Division which was a "COLD WEATHER" unit 'trained' to fight the commies in Europe and they 'trained' in the sweltering Texas summer sun in FULL WINTER GEAR (my cousin Larry almost died of heat stroke and still hates Texas). So much for dulling a unit.
Also, as I recall there's some mountains there too in the SW (Rockies?) and right now the 10th Mountain Division is stationed in Fort Drum, NEW YORK. That was their problem in Afghanistan - they couldn't handle the terrain until they got acclimated. So moving the 10th Mountain Division to the MOUNTAINS of the SW might make a tad more sense, no?
And just in case you bring up the Posse Comitatus Act as many incorrectly do to cloud the issue (not that you are), it doesn't apply. Illegals aren't US citizens ergo they can be 'arrested' by our Military.
UA Army regulars, should be US Army....

Happy,
I could not have said it better myself. Get a cold drink, make some popcorn, pull up a chair and watch the show. We are now going to see which politicians have any balls and which ones don't. Over 80% of the country want the borders sealed. Either these politicans honor OUR demands or we vote them out of office.
On a weekly basis I fax my elected offical on illegal immigration at http://numbersusa.com/actionbuffet.
This is a free site if anybody is not familiar with it. Please go and fax Congress as often as you can on illegal immigration. You can choose between different versions of text for your fax but at the end of each fax you have the abilitly to enter a custom PS message at the end. Here is mine:
"ALL POLITICANS THAT VOTE AGAINST THE 80% OF AMERICANS THAT WANT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION STOPPED, WILL PAY A HEAVY PRICE AT THE POLLS NEXT ELECTION."
We do need more LEGAL immigrants, and that is what some are missing, but at the same time we need to reverse the flow of illegals. Putting the guard on the border is not the solution, because they are overworked now. W needs to fire and use the extra 2,000 border guards that congress funded.
Finally! Someone gets it!

I don't agree. It would take less than 20,000 to do the job, even working in three shifts, 24/7. After all, they are patrolling in vehicles and manning observation posts, not fighting battles (we hope). These could be a mix of active duty and guard/reserve troops.
The southern border is about 2,000 miles long. Some of it is inaccessible for border crossers for a variety of reasons. Most of the crossing routes are long-established and can be plugged with a determined effort and a constant presence.
Put the detainees in tent cities, don't catch and release them for a later hearing.
Meanwhile, attack the sources of their jobs here in this country so there is less incentive. This needs to be an multi-pronged effort.
Nobody says doing this is easy or foolproof, but it is something which we can and should do. The Border Patrol is simply outnumbered and overstretched. Massive reinforcements are needed, but the bulk need not be bilingual or trained as customs agents but instead be already trained troops. Soldiers with weapons and some additional training can do the grunt work of spotting and rounding up the vast majority of border crashers. It won't be airtight, but it will discourage most illegals from trying to get in because if they're caught they lose their coyote fee and personal freedom (and ability to make money) for a while.
Enough is enough. We have a military which is very good and trained at protecting other people's borders. Let's use them here.
What do other countries do to illegal aliens entering their countries? What does France do? I'll bet they are even more strict thatn we are, and they have the EU arrangements to allow travel? Are we the only one's in the world that have this problem? The sad part is that we probably are...Thank God I live in the USA!
I think most of them put them in jail and eventually deport them. They don't catch-and-release and they don't have batteries of ACLU lawyers fouling up the works.
Not if covert operations were carried out to combat the drug runners, drug lords, and coyotes human smullgers who all are known to be quite violent and threatening.
They still have to deport all the poverty they let in. That is here illegally.
Seal the borders. Deport all illegal aliens.
I'd also like to see an internet web site that shows camera angles of the entire U.S.-Mexican Border, including night vision lenses, so we can all watch to see what goes on...a picture is worth a thousand words, but vido is worth an election...
