You are correct about Paul Carrack.
Great musical voice too.
Tempted was a good song too.
Cold winter's day in Houston Texas me and my steady girlfriend cuddling in the back of my Camero with the engine off, parked at Wilson Pool. She is wearing a rabbit fur coat and me a sweater (with small rabbit hairs all over it now) and a pair of new blue jeans that seem to be chaffing me something terrible.
While Im busy making out, licking banana split and wild cherry lip gloss from my girlfriend's lips and at the same time trying to find that damn hook.... My girlfriend suddenly says "stop" and asks me to stop as she sits up and turns up the volume so she can listen to this new group called "The Babys" sing "Isn't It Time".
/sigh
My 42nd birthday is day after tomorrow.
The Vapors were a a great band. Unfortunately, back then radio demanded songs with hooks -- 'Turning Japanese' had more hooks than a tackle-box; so that got the airplay.
The other great songs were buried : 'Jimmy Jones', 'Civic Hall', 'Waiting for the Weekend', 'Spring Collection', 'News at Ten', etc.
Top track !
I really think so...
Only because Ice stated that he grew up in Liberty City, FL (a black ghetto in Miami) even though he grew up in a suburban community in Texas.
Happy upcoming birthday !
Laugh if you wish but Manowar were the darlings of the NY metal scene back in the 1980s. Never liked them myself, as they were essentially Spinal Tap without the success.
Where does it go from here. Is it down to the lake I fear?
I think I'll pass. I think I'll spend my $15 on a pink "Choose Life" sweatshirt. Who would've thought George Michael was pro-life?
I first heard the Sonic Youth on WNYU in New York around 1987 or so, so I guess they could be considered an "obscure 80s band" with no hits.
That would be "Lake of Love" by Haircut 100.
I will continue to laugh.
Do not wear gold lame when you have a dick the size of an acorn.
At least with Spinal Tap Michael Mc Lean and Cristopher Guest saw the humour and milked it so to speak with the banana reference.
With babies it's cute.
With exhibitionist, prematurely balding adults it's embarassing.
For us if not for him.
Fave Sonic Youth albums are "Evol" and "Sister." Also liked when they did a remake of "Get into the Groove" as Ciccone Youth, around '88-'89.
